WTB/Trade - Windlass Wildcat - 3/8" for 5/16" - Simpson Lawrence 555

Hey all,

We plan to replace our current 3/8" BBB with 5/16" G4 and need to replace the wildcat on our SL 555 windlass. I can't find a new replacement, so perhaps someone is going the other way and would be willing to switch!?!

I am looking to get a 5/16"/8mm wildcat. I have a bronze wildcat for 3/8"/10mm chain.

Our 555 bronze gypsy is working with both 5/16 and 3/8. So did the last one. Check with Florida Rigging, they rebuild the SL 555 and have most if not all parts. Have had great service and attitude from them on numerous contacts.

I suppose I should have said, I've been unable to find a wildcat for a reasonable price. $275 seems a bit steep to me! I remember seeing a stack at Sailorman for $25.

I haven't tried 5/16" on my wildcat. I assumed it wouldn't work. I'll check this week. Do still contact me if you have one/want to trade.

I think it will work:

We use 5/16 H/T, G4 with a stock gypsy and I seem to remember it was a non-issue when buying the 555.

That's good to know. I'll make sure to check. I thought 5/16" links are shorter and thus wouldn't seat in the wildcat.

Also, and it probably doesn't matter, I just remembered that our model is the 510 "hyspeed", not the 555. You know...the one with the bike chain that is a RPITA to service.
