Victron 12/2500/120 For Parts

First the bad news. It doesn't work and they don't make parts for it anymore. The good news is it's yours for the cost of shipping. I will be throwing it out in about a week if someone doesn't want it. I'm on Gabriola, BC, V0R 1X0 for shipping and would bring it to Victoria, Nanaimo or Courtenay (but only this Sunday March 18th for Courtenay). It is heavy so shipping may be expensive.

If you have one you may be able to use this one for parts. Their solution for me was to charge me $1000 for a replacement.

It will be thrown out by March 25th at the latest.

How old is it? My unit broke just within the 2 year warranty.. so much for the "famous Dutch quality"

I bought it three years ago but, unbeknownst to me, it sat on the shelf for a few years before that. The serial number made it to be a 2006.

What blows me away is...What parts? I mean it's electronics isn't it? I'm sure they didn't make the ic chips and so on. Why can't they just order the parts from their vendors? These things are expensive. My regrets hummingway.

Re: Victron 12/2500/120 For Parts

It seems they never really sold parts, probably don't for any of there models, but they did make replacement boards. They asked me some questions, had me do a couple things, then announced it was the controller and they don't make the model anymore or have any boards left. The model they gave me is the new improved one. Hopefully the one where the board doesn't crap out.

I think they gave me the new one for $1000 as a way of getting around not carrying parts since they were still selling this model not long ago. In Canada it used to be, and still may be, that they are supposed to stock parts for ten years after they stop selling a model.

Well, if it was something else I would have been upset I suppose but since it's my boat I was just glad to wire the new one in and have it work. They've got me programmed to just open my wallet I guess!

Re: Victron 12/2500/120 For Parts

hummingway,

I'd be interested in the Victron for parts if you'd be willing to ship it to me and if it doesn't cost a million :-)

On a quick look at FEDEX, I saw the cheapest rate would probably be on the order of $100 or so if I was guessing right about the size and weight.

Could you please tell me how much it would cost to ship to zip code 22202 (Arlington, VA) via any carrier you choose?

I could send the $$$ via PayPal.

My direct email is: bill at wdsg dot com

Thanks,

Bill

It's actually a bit of a running joke at this end, my boat came with "enkes" winches, which also purport to be "Dutch quality" (at least it says so on the tin!). This had me giggling since a) I'd never heard of Dutch engineering prowess and b) some bits were broken! When I tried to order spares under their "lifetime warranty", I found that the company had folded and been reformed and the warranty had thus been, shall we say, curtailed somewhat.
