Good luck, you may find what you are looking for. Just my 2 cents, why do you think you NEED a 40' cat? You can fit a two kids and two adults in a much smaller, manageable and less costly boat.

We may consider a smaller Cat but we have been on a 43' cat and we enjoyed it...Plus with a 2 year old and a 7 year old, space is a must!!! LOL

Well;
Space is nice, but you might be surprised how much space you really need to be safe and comfortable. Are you at the beginning of your sailing career, and boat search? I ask because the first boat we looked at was a 47' beauty. We bought a 32' monhull for 20k, and it is enough space for us. When we first bought it I was not so sure, but now I can say that we needed MUCH less space than we originally thought.

Search the web for Dave and Jaja Martin. They circumnavigated in a 26' boat, having two kids on the way, and then cruised the higher latitudes with their THREE kids on a (spacious) 33 footer. They have a great book, "Into the Light" and a DVD as well.

Another source - "the Cruising Life", by ???. We picked up a copy of this at Boarders.

Ha Ha .... hmmmm .... with a 15-18 motion comfort ratio, it would seem to me that "space is a must" not leave the dock situation with a 2 year old and a 7 year old in a multi-hull (IMHO).

How about a 36' PDQ extended to 39'. It's 10 years old, but was lightly used and has new in 2008/2009 upholstery, varnish on floors, fridge, windlass, SSB, Huge below decks autopilot, batteries, charger, inverter, etc, etc. Totally refit. I think this is a great idea and could produce the perfect situation to benefit both parties. Particularly for a family like us who are saving for our live aboard dream as well as for a boat owner that’s strapped and stuck with a boat payment they can’t afford and a boat that won’t sell for a price to cover the loan balance + brokerage fees.
Heck, if y’all know of anyone in this situation with 36’ to 42’ blue water catamaran with decent head room and accommodations for a family of 4, who could use someone to take over their boat loan, let me know.

Also, G-Family, if you’ve had to pass on any takers, please send them my way.

Hey...why not consider a mono hull...Iv got a 41 footer...it will be almost completely gone through when I'm done here this spring so lets call it a 83/10...lets see my payments..Hmmm....what should I make them...OH ya...6000.00 per month plus insurance...you can have it for 18 months.

I don't know about G-Family but my intent would be to own the boat at the end of the term. No long-term charters for this family.

What prevents someone from "taking" over your payments, skipping the country with you boat? Your bank still has you on the hook for the loan and now your out your boat as well. Just too many potential problems, insurance, registration, documentation, yard leins, just to mention a few. My take is very simple unless you get a "ton" of collateral an excellant credit check and a few pounds of great referrences, forget about it.

This is an old post. I took the intent of the IP as an out right purchase. Where the buyer takes over the loan with a title transfer and no pay off/equity to the seller, or maybe the IP simply refis and pays off the original loan and takes title as above.

Well I'll throw my hat in the ring. Anyone out there want to get out from under their payments on a 40-45' cat? I have cash, but not for a Gunboat, dang. Contact me

Read it again ....it was an either or proposal..mostly wishful thinking on the ownership end.
