Servicing costs

looking at some affordable Athena 38's and i was wondering what the average servicing costs for the yanmah engines is.

I'm also interesting in typical issues with this boat.

Thanks

Re: Servicing costs

What do you mean by servicing costs? Oil and filter change? Major overhaul? I'd google up the manufacturer's maintenance schedule to get an initial feel.

Re: Servicing costs

I do all that sort of work myself so the labor cost is $0. If you want to have someone else do it then it will depend on local labor rates.

If you have the engine model numbers you can price out filters, impeller, etc. pretty easily online. Shell Rotella T4 is $12.50 a gallon at Walmart.

Re: Servicing costs

We do all the maintenance ourselves except antifouling and saildrive shaft seals. My view is that I may have to do some things at sea or away from support, so get familiar.

We have our Yanmar 3GM30 motors and saildrives with 3YM30 + SD20 saildrives, but maintenance costs are the same.

We could go to non-OEM suppliers for some things and would save a bit, but given the value of the motors and saildrives, prefer not to. These are UK prices.

Yearly:
Engine Oil filter, Fuel filter, Raw water Impeller about £45 x 2
Engine Oil Yanmar £30
Primary diesel filter RACOR £20 x 2
water pump">Raw water pump seal £4 x 2 (remove pump, remove impeller, replace seal refit impeller. 15 mins work, raw water pump does not leak, bearings do not fail!)
Saildrive oil Quicksilver High Performance Gear Oil £40 x 2
Saildrive anodes £50 x 2
Antifouling International Micron 350 10litres £400 (can stretch this to bi yearly)

Bi-Yearly:
Saildrive seals £30 x 2
Engine Coolant Yanmar £30 x 2
Sails clean and repair ??? say £200
