Re: Using Blue NMEA for Android via bluetooth
Happy...
Lets try some debug for Bluetooth.
Please add the following to your config file
Might then see some interesting output in the log file.
Thanks
Dave

Re: Using Blue NMEA for Android via bluetooth
The bt adapter I'm using is a bcm2046b1 (usb adapter)
Are you refering to typing in com10 into the "nmea data source" box. It will let me write com10 but it doesnt stay, it defaults back to none.
Btw, I'm using w7 sorry forgot to answer that earlier.

Re: Using Blue NMEA for Android via bluetooth
Well hmm, I got BlueNMEA to work with my Macbook. It's the only GPS -> Bluetooth app that has successfully connected to nav apps on the Macbook and sent NMEA data.
I found that I had to carefully manage the connection and hit the connect buttons in both apps at roughly the same time so they could find each other and connect, even though the devices were already connecting via bluetooth.
On the OpenCPN side, I found that the 2.6 beta does not exist yet for Mac, d'oh.
The 2.5 seems to load OK but as many have noted the menus are not accessible and the interface is in french. Not sure if there's a way to fix these issues via config.
thanks
Nick

Re: Using Blue NMEA for Android via bluetooth
Family...
If you type COM10 in the "NMEA Data Source" box, and immediately hit "OK' button, then what happens?
Should be one of two things:
1. Nothing, apparently, which means the port was successfully opened.
or
2. An error message dialog which says something like
"Could not open serial port "Com10", ....
If (1), then try again, and also click the box "Show GPS/NMEA data stream window" before clicking OK. If the Bluetooth is being received, you should see some output on this window.

Re: Using Blue NMEA for Android via bluetooth
Dave, same question as famil cruiser...I put it as in:
[Settings/NMEADataSource]
DebugNMEA=1000
Source=Serial:COM5
BaudRate=4800
here's a screengrab I think we all are seeing similar?
here's sa disappointing log:
"11:07:32 AM: NMEA Data Source is....Serial:COM9
11:07:45 AM: EnumerateSerialPorts() Found Garmin USB Driver.
11:08:02 AM: EnumerateSerialPorts() Found Garmin USB Driver."
and that's all.
but with xport, emulating Port 5 I get
and log(partial-want more?)
Code:

Re: Using Blue NMEA for Android via bluetooth
I did come up with this on a retry from OPCN log(I am
above,just"11:31:35 AM: NMEA Data Source is....Serial:COM9
11:31:36 AM: AIS Data Source is....None"
further down...
"11:31:38 AM: OpenPD: 1832, new_count = 1 for COM9
11:31:38 AM: ***GPS Watchdog timeout...
11:31:38 AM: ***HDx Watchdog timeout...
11:31:38 AM: ***SAT Watchdog timeout..."
after I closed O.
PS I put DebugNMEA in the recommended place but no diff to ouput seen yet

Re: Using Blue NMEA for Android via bluetooth
Hey Guys....
Bluetooth...Curse of the Devil....
I can't replicate your environment exactly.
I have an Android tablet, with BT but no GPS.
I found an App called BlueTerm, which is simply a dumb terminal allowing the droid to connect to the PC as if through a simple null MODEM wired COM port. If this works, then OCPN should work.
And it does work for me with XP as a virtual under linux host. I can compose NMEA sentences on the Android, send them over the blue, and OCPN jumps to position. Yes....
But I cannot get it to work natively under another XP box. BT will not connect to the COM port. Nothing to do with OCPN here. This is a low level link problem. Of course, MS gives no useful debug log. Grrrr....
I think what is going on the OCPN is that the BT COM port gets set up with unexpected MODEM control line configurations, causing the data flow to stop. OCPN does not care about these lines, and in fact they do not physically exist in a BT link. But the MS COM port drivers do.
So, there may be some trial and error required to get this right. I'll try to build some ugly hack debug version and find a way to allow Happy and/or Family to download for a quick test. Please stand by
Dave

Re: Using Blue NMEA for Android via bluetooth
Happy/Family...
OK, I uploaded a hacked version of OCPN 2.6.1220 to
http://opencpn.org/ocpn/downloads/beta/opencpn.exe
Download this sucker and place it over the top of your current Program Files\OpenCPN\opencpn.exe
Should be stable, though it is a "work in process" snapshot.
It tries to be excruciatingly explicit in the setup of COM ports. You should be able to connect to a BT port, and open the GPS/NMEA Data Stream Window, and see output. Also, lots of debug if enabled as above.
Let me know....
