appears to be the offender.

Re. performance with cm93 - openGl is a complete nono, spinning cursor from the outset and no way to stop it except force quit.

With openGL off it is barely possible to move chart, centre chart or zoom and frequent spinning cursor.

opening windows and dialogs is very fast though & as i said also on the base map only (no charts selected).

removed cm93 and selected some BSB's the behaviour is exactly the same.

I did a little road test yesterday of the latest OCPN release which worked just fine,except,no date/time stamp is recorded in the .gpx file? See attached file.

I also imported an old trip in the Caribbean which includes a date/time stamps in the .gpx file but does not show ANYWHERE on the map?

Sorry Dave.. NOW I remember,you insisted NOT to include date/time stamp in the yellow WPT boxes. You have to right click on the track and select the Route Manager showing ALL the WPT´s. Then select the WPT number you first have to select from the yellow box,in order to get the date/time stamp of the WPT in question.

Takes somewhat longer than just clicking the yellow WPT box,but,what the heck´s the hurry? And why do what all the others do?

This topic was really beaten to death several times already - not a good place to start resurrecting it again in a release candidate thread, when all the features are frozen and we are just polishing out the few remaining minor bugs before the final release...
Please look back through the forum archives, this was explained several times in the past as far as I can remember.

A couple of observations on 3.1.1411: (Linux)

- I accidentally run into a disk full situation while defining a route. This resulted in a loss of all stored tracks.

- On start I get some messages on console:

- Memory requirements seem to be way higher than at 3.1.8xx times. To the point of making OpenCPN unresponsive when help tab is selected (and external browser is called). Heavy swapping results. This will likely make my old Toughbook hardware useless this season (or I need to look into memory upgrade).

Memory requirements: I can see nothing between 3.1.8xx and now which would have significantly increased the memory footprint of O. Can you give us more information, using $top, etc??

The console warning messages on linux are annoying but harmless. The audio stuff comes from the new portaudio support, and there seems to be no way to turn it off.

Mac Performance: I note from your log that it seems that the cm93 cell load times are upwards of 20 seconds per cell. This is extremely slow, and would certainly impact panning/zooming, etc.

For reference, on my average linux desktop, the cell load times are around one second per cell. Same for my Mac Mini, which has acceptably snappy performance with and without OpenGL.

Could there be something going on with your disk storage system?
Maybe try moving the cm93 to a thumb drive, or other media...

Any other ideas?

3.1.1411 mostly looks great. I'm experiencing one small problem on my boat system: Windows XP SP3 with a BU-353 GPS puck (USB interface with Prolific driver). Any time I make any changes in the preferences dialog, hitting Apply or OK causes the GPS to disconnect. That happens on any change, even if it has nothing to do with the GPS. I have to exit OpenCPN and restart it to get the GPS connected again.

I attach a session script (gzipped and doc'ed, as there is a 1000bytes forum limit on txt).

If nothing significant changed in OpenCPN memorywise, it is quite possible that firefox got more memory hungry on its reincarnations

Looks like I will need to buy that RAM.

On a XP/SP3 system :
1. I had a crash while closing OpenCPN after having used the Grib feature. It happened twice in a row. It hangs with the Grib window open or closed.
2. The Grib plugin doesn't update the Grib folder during an Opencpn session. If I use QTVim to add a new Grib I have to close and open O.

OOOOPS!

1. This crash doesn't occur in 3.1.1417
2. As stated before "The Grib plugin doesn't update the Grib folder during an Opencpn session. If I use QTVim to add a new Grib I have to close and open O." behaves the same in 3.1.1417 and is not a big deal.
