OPenCPN on Ubuntu 20 GPS connected via USB position not shown on map

Hi all together,
i'm new in this forum, due to a problem I'm battling with.
Problem is as follows:
- a GPS is conencted to /dev/ttyUSB0 with 4800 Bauds and in the NMEA Debug window I can observe the NMEA string coming in.
- all looks fine but the string is not interpreted by OpenCPN

Does someone of you can please help me to solve the problem?

Kind Regards

Is the data valid?

Post some lines from the debug window.

Hi houlejm

the code to me looks valid...
Here a section from the dataflow.

Looks like your GPS is not getting a fix. All those consecutive comas are where the location data should be. You may need to make sure the GPS has a clear view of the sky or just give it time if its database is out of date.

Re: OPenCPN on Ubuntu 20 GPS connected via USB position not shown on map

Yes your GPS does not get a fix. Like here:
$GPRMC,123651,V,,,,,,,230601,,*35<0x0D><0x0A>
The third field shows a "V" for invalid. should be an "A"

And here:
$GPRMB,V,,,,,,,,,,,,V*66<0x0D><0x0A>
The second field shows a "V" for invalid. should be an "A"

And all the sentences that should show a position show nothing.

Are you inside a building or in a place where a GPS signal cannot enter?

Michael..
If you happens to be inside try to move the GPS receiver outside and check for a difference.

Jab, this comes clear to me!
It is not a connectivity problem but a reception problem.

Many thanks for your help !

Sail save !
Best regards
Michael
