OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.909

Ahoy 'droids....

The 4.1.909 Beta Test release of OpenCPN for Android is available for download now.

http://bit.ly/1OzDoxU

Changelog

45. Implement Google Maps integration
46. Integrate World Magnetic Model (WMM) PlugIn
47. Move data storage to {/storage/emulated/0/Android/data/org.opencpn.opencpn/files}
48. Implement Fullscreen (immersive) mode.
49. Implement mouse wheel zooming.
50. Implement standard OCPN help files.
51. Many and varied UI tweaks for small devices.

Release Notes:

You will probably do best to un-install any previous Beta before installing this one. Your private OCPN data (navobj.xml, custom icons, etc.) will be deleted in this process, so please save any critical data safely before proceeding.

45. Google Maps is sure fun, but sure eats up bandwidth.... Access by the OCPN Android Basic menu.

46. The World Magnetic Model PlugIn gives the user Magnetic Variation automatically. By default, the live toolbar icon is disabled. Be assured that the PlugIn is working away in the background, however. The live toolbar feedback may be re-enabled by Expert Settings->Plugins->WMM Preferences.

47. Once more we move the app data storage location, to conform to Android design rules, and hopefully remain compatible with Google's future versions. I think that this is the last move. Due to the nature of Android/linux symbolic link behaviour on different platforms, you may find it necessary to poke around a bit to find your logfile, config file, etc. You may always look at the OCPN help tool to get a direct readout of the locations.

48. This may be viewed as a "partial" immersive Fullscreen mode. We retain the OCPN Action Bar, because we need it to fully operate OCPN, and to exit FullsScreen mode when desired. Swipe from the top or bottom screen edge to temporarily show the Android navigation and status bars.

49. Please try your mice, either BT or OTG cabled flavor.

50. I have integrated the standard OCPN help file set, graphics and all. Some is of course not relevent to Android, but most is. It does make the APK significantly larger.

51. Some of the Expert Settings dialogs were tweaked. Also Route/Track/Waypoint properties dialogs.

This is probably the last Beta before a Release Candidate.

As always, feedback is appreciated.

Thanks
Dave

DAVE

Whilst I applaud your commitment to the relatively few Android users of OPCN but surely it would be helpful to the now forgotten vast majority of PC users if progress could also be made on releasing an update to the beta 4.1.602 dated 2015-06-02.

What is wrong with 4.0.0?
And the other issue is "call for coders/developers" - a question of capacity

The 4.0.0 Mac version has a well known bug. So there is still no stable version for Mac OS X available. Therefore I understand the frustation of some people...

On W-XP VS2010 build:
Accelerated panning can't be checked. (OpenGL is on)

Tools-Display-Advanced-OpenGL Options-Use accelerated Panning.
The box can be checked but after "Ok" and then reopen the Options box it's no longer checked.

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.909

This is the first version where I can use the expert mode on my quite old Htc Sensation phone from 2011 (1.2 GHz dualcore-processor). Android 4.0.3

On the former betas the telephone blocked in waiting modus (the round icon turning) when I tried to use expert mode and I had to restart to continue. (or is this because I deleted about 10 other apps to have enough space left? )

works fine on my Samsung tab2 too.

what is a bit annoying is the sortorder of directories when I choose my charts,
its not in alphabhetical order.

thank You again for all efforts done !

No other message. Just the screen with the OpenCPN logo and that message. Searched for log file but none found.

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.909

Roger....

On my Nexus7 5.1...

1. I uninstall OpenPCN.

2. I install OA 4.1.818. Runs fine.

3. I try to install OA4.1.909. I get the same "X app not installed" message.
Reason: OA 909 switched to a "Release" certificate, while previous versions used a "Debug" certificate.

4. I uninstall OpenCPN, using settings->apps

5. And then I successfully install OA 4.1.909.

So, I know you said that you did uninstall 4.1.818. And I believe you.
Please try again. After uninstall, you should see no trace of OpenCPN in the settings->Apps list..

As a clue, on a successful install, Android will ask you to confirm the new app permissions.

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.909

Test in W7. Builds fine in both VS2010 and-2013.
This version runs very nice also in Windows.

One issue:

-The "This leg" message box is not shown or created. Neither after "Navigate to here" nor when "activate" a route.

Thanks

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.909

I was having trouble with the previous Beta test.
This one is much better - I'm starting to get used to the Android (non-Expert) menu now as well.
The previous version also seemed very slow - this version is a little quicker.
I use pinch Zoom - not the +- buttons - works for me.

Loaded this test version on my Samsung S4 phone and my Samsung Tab 10 (2014 version).
Both are working.

Cant reproduce it but I did get a couple of crashes when long pressing the Expert Toolbar - at the same time the Right Click menu also came up - Then O terminated.

Occasionally, again I can't find a way of definitely reproducing this, the charts change from north up to a rotated view. A kind of Course Up view. I think it happened in both Raster and Vector charts.
I note that you can rotate a Google Maps view using two fingers - returning from Google Maps once caused the OpenCPN charts to also be rotated.

This might be a general OpenCPN question:-
The Google Maps feature in this Android version is great.
I implemented the Windows GM Plugin this year on my ships PC.
It is very flakey and only worked with a previous version of GM.
Are you intending to implement a GM on the desktop versions like this Android one?
It seems that GM data is cache'd in a similar way to the Windows Plugin Version so you might be able to visit the places using the GM view whilst connected to the internet (a marina WiFi for example) and then use them at sea or away from an internet connection.
IMO, this would be a great feature in all OpenCPN versions.

Hope this helps
I'll keep looking to see if I can find a definite way to reproduce the above issues.

EDIT
I have just noticed that my Right Click menu had the mode set to "Course Up" - maybe this would cause the odd rotated view.
GM view doesn't rotate when mode is set to North Up

EDIT 2
Dont worry about the rotation thing - it was the "Course Up" mode causing the charts to rotate.
Suggestion - default orientation mode immediately after installation perhaps should be North Up - less confusing to new users.

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.909

After changing this in options.h:
Code:
#if defined(__WXMSW__) || defined(__WXOSX__)
    wxCheckListBox *ps57CtlListBox;
#else
    OCPNCheckedListCtrl *ps57CtlListBox;
#endif
and this in options.cpp:
Code:
#if defined(__WXMSW__) || defined(__WXOSX__)
        wxString* ps57CtlListBoxStrings = NULL;

        ps57CtlListBox = new wxCheckListBox( ps57Ctl, ID_CHECKLISTBOX, wxDefaultPosition,
                                         wxSize( 250, 350 ), 0, ps57CtlListBoxStrings, wxLB_SINGLE | wxLB_HSCROLL | wxLB_SORT );
#else
        ps57CtlListBox = new OCPNCheckedListCtrl( ps57Ctl, ID_CHECKLISTBOX, wxDefaultPosition, wxSize( 250, 350 ));
#endif
it works for Mac OS X.
Without these changes the Mariner's Standard list is garbage.

Also the "This leg" message box is OK in OS X.

on Acer z220 this menu is unuseable, but is ok in Landscape modeClick image for larger version

but scroll zoom on mouse works fine.( Right click definitely = soft key back-button on the samsung, so I would be unlikely to bother with a mouse on these devices)

google earth works well too
