O5.9 Connections

Be Free, Bill perhaps this thread can serve as a more technical discussion about Connections, networking, and getting the manual in shape.

Connections
Advanced right now we are discussing

Windows Wifi Router and Ethernet with Radar
and the Cruiser's Forum Thread
Still trouble running NMEA data stream and Radar in parallel. Any help?

Also there is a recent Github OpenCPN Issue for Steve and Bill to look at
And I have a current Github OpenCPN Documents Update Issue which tries to keep the first post updated to be current.

I know that Steve has or had access to the OpenCPN Dokuwiki so he can edit, in fact he has done a significant amount in this area. Bill can I give you access to edit? It is not hard. Send me a PM with your email and user name desired. You'll get an auto email with the PW.

I like what you wrote in the CF Thread. Can we use it?

Re: O5.9 Connections

Bill,
Regarding your UDP question (with no testing) but use of the interface in 5.9

Network UDP and Check receive Input on this Port.
Data Protocol: Nmea 0183 or Nmea 2000
Port Address: 0.0.0.0
Data Port: 10110

When receive input on this port is unchecked and
Output on this port (as autopilot or nmea repeater) is checked.

Network UDP Output on this Port.
Data Protocol: Nmea 0183 or Nmea 2000
Port Address: 0.0.0.0
Data Port: 10110
Input and output filtering generally appears and disappears when the respective port use is checked, but with only output on this port checked, the input filter is still available. I think this is a bug.

I havent tested anything.

I believe this has been fixed. There was a recent PR for O5.9

Re: O5.9 Connections

Steve (SteveAd) and Bill (Be Free) have offered to help with these pages which is wonderful!

I've edited and updated the screenshots in
Connections
Advanced

There is still a lot of editing and we need to reduce unnecessary text and whittle these documents down so they are focused, as Bill suggests. Bill poses some questions and has some topics that should be treated elsewhere (see Advanced comment).

Steve, I like your idea of a User "Wifi Networks" (is that name ok?) page just to handle a very simple boat network (done). I understand you need some screenshots of devices that incorporate a wifi Access Point. The screenshots would be for the setup page of the device using the manufacturer's software. Then we will have the Opencpn screenshots to connect. This is the direction most boats should be headed in.
  • Actisense,
  • Yacht Devices,
  • ShipModul gateways
  • Vesper,
  • Yacht Devices,
  • Quark
  • Oceanav
  • other AIS transceivers
Will users please provide the necessary screenshots by uploading them here? Images should be 800xwhatever pixels or greater, of good quality.

I'll make "Wifi Networks" page. We have some of this in Supplementary Hardware. Yachtd , QuarK , Oceanav, Artisense NGT-1: NMEA 2000 PC Interface, NGW-1: Artisense NMEA 2000 to NMEA 0183 Gateway Nmea Gateways and Multiplexers

But these dont have the necessary screenshots!!!

If you guys could take a look at the GNSS Setup page for improvements, I would really appreciated it.

Next I am at my boat I can provide screenshots for Yacht Devices YDWG-02 (which should be the same screens as the YDWR). I can provide for both 5.8.4 and 5.9.0, and both 0183 and n2k setups.

Re: O5.9 Connections

The best value for money, in my opinion (from 40€ to 70€ !)
Additionally, the designer is a sailor and is very responsive.

https://www.vela-navega.com/index.php/multiplexers

" (...) Vela-Navega multiplexers are capable of multiple configurations in a multitude of situations: they can act as serial data combiners; they can receive wired serial data and output it as wireless wifi data; they can translate SeaTalk1 data to Nmea 0183 data (Nmea2Wifi, Nmea3Wifi and Nmea4Wifi) and one model (Nmea3Wifi) can also convert from Nmea 0183 to SeaTalk1; Our latest model, N2K0183, can convert N2K messages to Nmea0183 sentences and vice-versa.
All of them can receive wireless wifi data and output it as wired serial data.
Yet, the simplest and the most common application is to create a wifi network so that all the boat instrument and AIS data becomes available on PCs, tablets or smart-phones connected to the wifi network. (...)"
