Re: Mexico Charts for OpenCPN

The overview charts are really "for orientation only". No details.

Blue Latitude is evaluating to add some smaller scale charts in the future, but in the meantime you have that 1:3000000 background only.

That's why we say describing the charts:
Quote:
These harbor and anchorage charts are intended to supplement existing cartography, and “fill in the blanks" with the anchorage level detail lacking in other sources. You will find some examples for illustration in the thumbnails.
To go through the examples at o-charts - product page (thumbnails):

Bruce,

Which sort of [emoji1166] "nautical charts" are included? Official SEMAR (raster or scans of paper charts), Navionics (eg from SASPLANET) , or?

I went to download - - for interest only, as we do not expect to return to cruising in Mexico - - but the 9 GB size deterred me... [emoji6]

Re: Mexico Charts for OpenCPN

They're mbtiles based on Navionics using SASPlanet.
The complete set is very large as it also includes the charts based on Bing Satellite.

Cheers,
Bruce

Re: Mexico Charts for OpenCPN

A complete new set of charts for Mexico and Central America is now available at https://TheChartLocker.com. The set includes satellite imagery from ArcGIS, Bing, and Google. Plus Navionics marine charts. All free.
(And charts for all of the Pacific Island groups, NZ, parts of Japan and Australia, and more, are available as well).

Cheers,
Bruce

This is amazing Bruce, thank you for sharing! Are Navionics tiles licensed? Separately, are these available as a tileserver for online consumption?

Re: Mexico Charts for OpenCPN

Thanks Bruce. Just downloaded these and using them as I write from Isla Isabela, between Mazatlan and Puerta Vallarta. I cannot imagine the time and effort behind producing these charts - and making them available for no charge is a great example of cruiser generosity (and rare in these days of Patreon-only communications), though I was happy to make a PayPal contribution.

Re: Mexico Charts for OpenCPN

Bruce: definitely a great contribution! Especially all the satellite images.

Still, the Blue Latitude harbour/anchoring charts are needed (O-charts). Also, the SEMAR vector charts from o-charts are updatable.

Hi Tenedos,
I don't understand what you mean as a tileserver for online consumption.... sorry!

And thanks for the donation MVWeebles (great name!). All donations to TheChartLocker.com are sent to The Story of Stuff Project to help protect our oceans from plastic pollution.
Best,
Bruce

Sailing Pelagia: The best chart package for Pacific Mexico: OpenCPN and O-CHARTS

Hi David,
I agree the o-charts are a great addition. The more sources the better since ALL chart sources have errors (Navionics has many errors in Mexico and the world!). When I first published the MBTiles for Mexico, there were no o-charts for Mexico, so nice that they exist now. We should support o-charts as they are doing good work getting affordable charts our there for OpenCPN.
Cheers
Bruce
