So you set up the PPA and it still cannot find the program? Double check the spelling of the PPA URL. It sounds like your system cannot find the PPA.

Re: Help / FAQ

I think I've found a bug. Did anyone work on the GPX Export code recently? Did anyone performance test that code?

When we leave a country, I package up my tracks & waypoints so I can post them on our website for others to download. I:
  • Delete all my routes
  • Delete irrelevant waypoints
  • Turn off all Layers
  • Data-reduce my tracks (5m only)
Then I click Export All Visible... give it a name, & OpenCPN (v4.x) works maybe 1-2 minutes to package it all up. Fine!

With v5, it took OpenCPN OVER 6 HOURS to generate a 3MB GPX file with maybe 50 tracks covering less than 1,000nm, & maybe 50 waypoints.

Is this expected performance? This is WAY longer than v4.

Also, there's no way to stop it once it's started. All the X's in the upper right corners are greyed out, & nothing responds. I had to start Task Manager & Womp it upside the haid, then restart OpenCPN. I'm running updated Win10 on an 5yo Acer Aspire, i7 4x, 16GB, & SSD.

Jon,

I can test this if I have access to your data files. I do not have large track and waypoint files so can not duplicate what you see.

Re: Help / FAQ

I just did a test for exporting all visible. That included more than 300 tracks totaling around 10,000M + about 10 layers. The total size of the file ended up at
121.1 MiB (3,480,325 lines gpx file) and took less than 15s.

Panasonic CF-31 15.6 GiB and SSD, 4x Intel i5-2520M @ 2.50GHz

So I don't think we have an OpenCPN problem .... unless there is something unexpected in what you try to export.. All I exported originated from O. No "alien " imports, for example.

please help with Zoom

Hello, I need help with Zoom.
When I use the touchscreen it zooms too much.
The scale factor changes by about 50% each time I press "+" or "-" on the touchscreen.
Using the Keyboard "Alt" & "+" it changes by about 10% scale factor.

example using "Alt" & "+" is about a 10% change in scale
1:12800
1:11500
1:10400
1:9350
1:8450

example using the on screen "+" button is about 50% scale change
1:12800
1:6400
1:3200
1:1600
1:800

Can anyone tell me how to get the smaller change in scale using the on-screen buttons ?
Thank you, John

Re: Help / FAQ

The zoom ratios of +/- are hard coded and cannot be changed.

Does pinch with 2 fingers work on your tablet if you enable the tablet interface?

Re: Help / FAQ

Yes, thank you, pinch in and out does work. I was looking for a way to mimic the "Alt" key zoom in/out in small increments.

Looking for advice/help on what are the best cruising charts available for western Caribbean, primarily Yucatan, Belize and Guatemala for opencpn. Running v4.8 on Mac laptop.

Re: Help / FAQ

Looking for a quick check from people with some experience in integrating seatalk1 equipment to OpenCPN via Raspberry Pi. I am sailing a Gemini 105MC.
My current situation is that all of my Raymarine ST60 instruments and ST4000 autopilot currently work. I do not have a chartplotter which integrates the instruments with a display. Instead I use a Raspberry Pi & OpenCPN with a USB GPS receiver that displays to a tablet. This works fine, but it is not integrated with the instruments.

I have looked at the openCPN manual in depth and it has guided me to the setup as follows:

I have not purchased the seatalk connectors or the Actisense wifi device and am looking for anyone with experience.

My reasoning for going to this system is -
1. I want to integrate my instruments with OpenCPN at low cost.
2. Existing instruments and autopilot work fine right now, but want to future proof the setup and have the flexilibity to add additoinal/replacement instruments to the NMEA2K backbone.
3. I want to go to WiFi for access to info from mobile devices (in the future).

I am looking for feedback to see if this is a sensible approach or if I am heading down the wrong path. Thanks for any help or advice you all can offer. Jeremy

Re: Help / FAQ

Jeremy..
You're talking about to send NAV-data to an Autopilot, are you?
Are you sure the Acticense W2K-1 supports bi-directional communication? From the manual I get the impressions it's only for one-way traffic to e.g. OCPN. To send data to and from OCPN you may need a NGW-1? ( https://www.actisense.com/product/ngw-1/ ) Although not wifi but for me it sounds safer for navigation?
Anyone else here that have used the W2K?

BTW, the W2K-1 manual has a nice example of a good program to use for it. See shot.

Re: Help / FAQ

Hakan- Great information- exactly the kind of feedback I was looking for. To your questions:

You're talking about to send NAV-data to an Autopilot, are you?
Yes - It is one of the things that I want.

Are you sure the Acticense W2K-1 supports bi-directional communication?
I missed that entirely.

Thanks for the lead to the NGW-1. I also found the NGT-1. The NGT has a STNG (option) and USB interface. Because I require the SeaTalk1 to SeaTalkNG cable, it seems to be exactly what I need.

What do you think?

Thanks!
Jeremy

I should have stopped there. This is exactly what I need. Thanks again.
