Re: Help / FAQ

first thing to try would be removing V7.1 and then downloading and installing V7.0.3

once that's in place, then we can fiddle around if you're still having issues.

Re: Help / FAQ

absolutely right. stop the auto updates.

however, i don't believe google makes that possible to do manually. they want to force auto updates on you.

the way around that is to go to this link:
Google Earth

then be sure to click on "advanced setup" rather than just agreeing to terms and starting the automatic download. on the advanced setup page you'll be able to choose 7.1 or 7.0 (which is actually 7.0.3). when you choose 7.0, the auto update box is unchecked and then 7.0.3 will install without auto updates enabled.

Re: Help / FAQ

i didn't get there the same way but by googling for older versions and followng a link from a google form to 7.02. Another reply on same forum said to disable auto updates go to 'run' and enter 'msconfig' and when opened uncheck any google update actions listed therein This method was suggested for vista but it worked for me too with win 8.1

Re: Help / FAQ

Just to update, I managed to get OpenCPN with GE back up and running like it used to on my home Win8.1 laptop then today i spent 5 hourds doing th same on my Vista laptop that I leave on my boat. The boat laptop is also running OK with GE, I got lucky and got to block Google Update before it interfered. that said what took the time was getting my Skype going on the boat laptop, because it would not let me sign in. Eventually discovered that Skype prevents you signing in IF you have not updated to their latest software and somewhere back I had disabled auto updates of Skype. I had reset my password 3 times before i found that it was a deliberate act to stop me signing in until I downloaded the latest software. Now I have money invested in my Skype account, in paid subscriptions and Skype credits so being frozen out was irritating, however now it is resolved. I only need it really for when outside the USA these days as my US cellphone account with T-Mobil now gives me unlimited calling to the UK (I'm a Brit with family back there) , to both landlines and cellphones, for a $!5 monthly add-on fee. .

But my real reason for the update is to thank all herewho gave me helpful advice.

Re: Help / FAQ

My GE isn't working any more in OpenCPN.

It was working fine a few weeks ago when I lasted tried it. Now I get the GE window opening on top of OpenCPN, but the window is just grey - no image.

I'm using windows 7, OpenCPN 4, and I've just downgraded GE to 7.0.3 in case it was updating to 7.1 which had caused the problem. Downgrading GE didn't fix it for me.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Re: Help / FAQ

Import layer as waypoints. Edit, then export.

Re: Help / FAQ

In answer to my own question - apply admin rights to the google earth dll in the opencpn plugin folder.

Use a gpx editor/convertor like G7toWin(have used a lot but not recently), or GPX Editor(I haven't used this one) or even a text editor like notepad.

Re: Help / FAQ

I'm learning to work with OpenCPN for a while now, and there's one thing I'm having difficulty understanding: How do the +/- and 'large scale/small scale' buttons/commands interact ?

Been searching the forum for a good while and it seems I'm the only one having trouble understanding it

Is there a tutorial on the subject somewhere ?

w fr greetings, Leo

Re: Help / FAQ

Thanks CarCode

Now it's clear to me !

And the Internet is a great source of info but sometimes it's hard to see the wood 'cause of the trees.
