Maybe it's time for some documentation although I never thought it will be needed.

The plugin disconnects automatically when you change the GE view more than a certain small amount - this is to allow loading KML files without making the plugin forget about them immediately etc.
There is a config option to tell the plugin whether this automatic (and not that intelligent) routine should be used. In the config dialog it's called Disconnect from Viewport on GE action. Unfortunately this config switch does nothing right now, but will in 0.4...

The check box is checked as default when loaded but the GE-picture will not move. If I uncheck and then check the box again the GE picture moves, but only one time after that it will not move until I uncheck and check and then it moves again but just one time. The ver. 0.2 runs ok
I have XP home SP3 as OS and run OpenCPN 2.4.0.0310

thanks for the info. Attached is a new version where turning off this feature in config actually works, so you should be able to use it at least the same way as 0.2.
I also added more logging to debug your problem. Could you please have a look at your log when the disconnection happens and post the part talking about the disconnection?
It should look something like the following:

My computer is not a netbook but on the other hand not "fast and powerful"
CPU 1.5 GHz and 1 GB in RAM.
I posted the most of the file I found and this is when running ver. 0.3 of the GE plugin.

OK, I see whats going on here. In certain parts of the cm93 database, the cells at a particular scale and location are split into multiple subcells. I think this was done in original cm93 to control file sizes.

We know how to load and display these subcells. However, the new code in 2.4 which caches cell M_COVR objects (and also manages user cell offsets) gets a bit confused by these subcells. They don't exist at the locations I used for testing, so I never saw this problem until we moved to more densely charted European locations.......

More code.....sigh....

Jan,
not at all, the GE plugin has nothing to do with the maps displayed and will work even without any maps.

Had a look at your log - is it really with the last version of the plugin (0.4)? And did the checkbox really change the state from checked to unchecked? The reason for asking these rather stupid questions is that there is no way it can happen without creating the log entry saying "Disconnected from the viewport..." and there is nothing like that in the log you posted.
If the answer to the above is positive, did you try with the "Disconnect from Viewport on GE action" config option turned off?
Will keep thinking, but currently have no idea what could be wrong. Maybe one more thing that could make a difference - which version of GE do you have installed?

thanks, but I'm still confused as there is no disconnection message in the log... I really need to see that message starting with "Disconnected from the viewport" and just a few before that
Try closing OpenCPN before looking at the logfile as what you are sending is just the beginning of the log - and it looks OK, the commands get sent to GE and GE says it has done what was requested... I'm not sure when wx writes the log messages, but if you close the program, all will be there for sure.
Meanwhile will try to cannibalize some more machines here and try to reproduce it myself.

VERY weird, the act of automatically unchecking the checkbox is not there at all... I have absolutely no explanation for that as it is not possible that it happens without the message being written to the log...
Will think about what else could be done to track it down.
If anybody else has this problem, please let me know.

yes I discovered that as well while finally putting NMEA simulator to work. Looks like a bug in OpenCPN core is causing the plugin to never actually receive the boat position. Already looking at it with Dave.
