Re: Google Earth Plugin

Hmmm,
very smart and well configured this InterScan thing is... Next time we have to try to add some passwords to the ZIP... The packaging will finally take more time and effort than the whole coding then

Re: Google Earth Plugin

mesi...
With .506 you have to use the latest plug-in version (0.7) No earlier version will work.
To see what's up I would need to see your logfile. There's quite a lot of info written by the plug-in, so strip it just to the last run. To find the logfile look at Installing OpenCPN | Official OpenCPN Homepage

Re: Google Earth Plugin

Mesi, maybe a silly question:

As you are pretty short on RAM, can you open and use both OpenCpn and Google Earth independently at the same time ?

Re: Google Earth Plugin

Mesi, are you sure you've got the latest plugin (0.7)? The plug-in is updated when the OCPN beta is, and a previous version won't work. i also have an occasional hang with the current beta and GE plugin, but not consistant.

Re: Google Earth Plugin

Mesi...
looks really like your machine is not strong enough and the events are not handled before the new ones come in - I'm trying to avoid this, but on the very low-end hardware the times I used seem still too short. Already designed a better solution, but have to implement it. Stay tuned for the next version in a couple of weeks.

BluegillBoy...
I'm very interested in the last say 50-100 lines of the opencpn logfile when the hang happens.

I was thinking of an option for slow systems: do not update (or refresh screen) until the user click on the GE window (or perhaps a press a button on the bottom bar) ?

Re: Google Earth Plugin

Let's see how the new system will work. I hope it will be able to handle it well, but if not something like this could be done.

Re: Google Earth Plugin

Hmm...
for me it looks like geplugin can not locate googleearth on d:
I have no place on c: for googleearth and cache.
PIII 1.3 GHz should be rather fast enough for navigational purposes.
Especialy because our easteurpean time goes much slower
There is still time to install puppy leenoox , slax or sth
that goes faster.

here You can find interesting part of opencpn log
when map is not moving.

Opencpn is still my favorite navigational software.
Next week I go sailing for a few months, do not worry too much about my problem.

Re: Google Earth Plugin

Hello everybody. Been using Open CPN now for a while and I love the software. I still cannot get the GE pluging to display anything. It flashes the GE window, then disapears. I am running Win 7, version .7 of the plug in and 2.4.506 of OpenCPN. Any help would be appreciated....

Re: Google Earth Plugin

Hey Nevermind....I actually got it working now. I had to close it down a couple of times and move the toolbar to the right. Then the GE icon showed up on the menu....

Great application!

Re: Google Earth Plugin

Wow! The link to Google earth works well with Version 2.4.412 Build 2011-04-12. What a revelation to be able to link the charts with the Google Earth Images. I almost hesitate to move up to the latest build!

Very neat when I have OpenCPN charts on one large monitor, and the Google Earth images on a second adjacent monitor. Images synch properly.
One of the few concerns I have is that I will now be addicted to GE images when cruising. The problem will be that I don't have internet access to the GE library of images when sailing in remote areas. Can I cache GE images on my laptop at home, and then call them up when off the net?

Welcome to CF, hjkarten...

The GE pluging (and obviously GE) does work offline provided you've loaded the cache
(I am using Google Earth 6.0.3.2197 at the moment)
But I have no idea how large the cache must be to cover a sailing basin in sufficient (?) details...
You might like to experiment and report to us ?

Re: Google Earth Plugin

Hi, I'm trying to get the GE Plugin to work, but so far am only seeing a Grey Box.

OpenCPN is 2.4.506, GE Plugin is 0.7 and GE is 6.0.1.2032 (beta). Both products run fine on the machine, which is an HP Pavilon dv2000 Intel Core Duo, 4GB RAM, with XP Pro SP3. I just can't get the plugin to show anything.

Some of the log is below; Key message is (I think) "10:10:52 AM: Not moving the camera, GE looks unusable" but that's all I can find!

Any ideas? Would love to get this working.

Cheers, PT.

PS. My thanks to all for an excellent product!
