Driver for USB-RS232 converter not recognized

Window 8 with Classic Shell on an Acer.
Driver loaded ok but cannot locate install configuration in Device Manager. Converter powers on as does Garmin 45.
GPS status: no data (grey boat icon)

What brand USB-RS232 converter are you using? What software are you using within windows? I will try to help but am not the foremost expert in Windows 8.

Re: Driver for USB-RS232 converter not recognized

Why do you believe the driver loaded ok?
Can you have a check at the Windows device manger if a virtual COM port is created correctly?
With the device manger opened, what happens if you unplug/replug the converter (not too fast please, Windows needs it's time)?

Re: Driver for USB-RS232 converter not recognized

If you have a Prolific ship set , I had the same problem recently with W8 :
The most recent Prolific Driver doesn't recognize the older device.(type HXA)
try this solution :
-Deactivate the automatic Drivers update
-Install the precedent driver version (there are 2008 and 2007 versions)
I hope this help
