Driver for USB GPS BU-353S4

The USB GPS Receiver BU-353S4 from US Global Sat Inc seems to be highly recommended for the MACENC marine software installed on a Macbook Pro.
Question 1: What is the Driver that will the BU-353S4 work with MACENC?
Question 2: Is there a more appropriate GPS unit for simple navigation with MACENC?

We had a BU353 and were happy with it. Unfortunately, it went overboard. In the process of replacing it, I see that that in discussions, the difference between BU353 and BU353S4 is often overlooked. The literature claims the S4 is better and somewhat more accurate
in its tracking function. Are you happy with the S4 and have you had any opportunity to
compare it with the earlier model ( BU353)? Since our macs have no CD slots, do you know if the S4 download issues have been settled.

I run 2 chart programs when offshore. I have OpenCPN using a BU353S4 and Maxsea with a Furuno GPS. They seem to be the same except for price. I have yet to see a position difference. They are equally inaccurate on distorted charts.

I am having a problem connecting my BU-353-S4 to openCPN working under Ubuntu 16.04LTS. I previously had a BU-353 (NO "S4") and it worked perfect. This unit works fine with gpsmon, but xgps, cgps, and OpenCPN don't see it. Is there an Ubuntu driver available? The driver that comes with it is for RedHat only.
