I found this download with charts good quality and detail, wondered if it can be used in Open Cpn.

Probably not. There are quite strict conditions for licensing charts from hydrographic offices. My best guess is that these charts only works with K charts plotter.

The good news is that OpenCPN through o-charts - Vector Charts for OpenCPN is intruducing a series of new and updated charts from a number of hydrographical offices, with a wide European coverage, to start with. Not surprisingly these charts will only work on OpenCPN.

We explored the chart sets for South Africa already but had to realize that the license for SA is quite expensive.
A complete oeSENC Vector set of SA would cost about 80€. Would that be interesting still?

Yes that's the problem too expensive for me an there are almost no free charts for this region.

As has been already mentioned, K-charts only work with Onwa chart potters.
