Chart oeRNC-IMR-Aeg-Med-East

Hi,

Hope you can help me. I just purchased and downloaded these charts yesterday. I been looking through the charts and fx the private marina of Methana (see enclosed) to enter this harbour, żou need to pass through a
narrow sound. This sound and the bouys is not visible at all in the map. it scale 1:30000 and if I set the scale to 1:25000, I get the message "Zoom factor exceeded".

I would have expected that the chart could lower so that I can see these details. Here's my question, could I have made a mistake in the downloading process ? ( I think not) or are the charts lacking a lower detail level.??

Hope you have help me.
Best regards
Michael

Your attachment didn't make it through, but have you tried zooming much further, e.g. to 1:2000 scale? There can often be a gap in coverage if the package only includes e.g. an overview chart and a berthing chart, and your only indication may be a thin purple line outlining the extent of the more detailed chart.

The blue and grey bars at the bottom of the screen indicate how many charts of various scales are available in the current view area and which one you're on. You can click/tap the bars to jump to different scales/charts.

If I read those bars correctly, then there may be no larger scale charts available.

I can tell you that there's a 1:4000 scale S-63 chart for the area showing a 1.9 m depth in the middle of that entrance to the Old Port. Navionics shows a bunch of soundings in the 2.5-3 m range. Depending on which is more current it's either been dredged or silted.

Obviously it is not always the best choice buying charts.
For places with very little changes and which are not tidelands so for the relative stable Mediterranean sea e.g. it is still sufficient to use the latest CM93 v2 charts. These examples of CM93 v2 of this area are from May 2015 and they costs nothing:

ID:	249823This is the latest S-63/S-57 chart for that Harbor. Updated 2021-10-12.
The second one at 1:3200 to show the complete information...
Perhaps not the best idea here to use charts that are at least 6 years old.

And one more for comparison...

My guess would be that someone had dredged the place, but which is correct would become known soon enough on entry.

When I visit such places I always made some georeferenced kap files from Google Earth pictures. Often the color of the water is a better hint than any chart.

You'll do better with MBTILES files for colour.
