Re: Beta Test / Technical

System:OCPN 5.8.4 running on Ubuntu 22.04

Problem:TCP Network Input freeze upon Ubuntu waking up from sleep.

Impact:Lost of GPS position and all incoming navigation data (AIS, GPS, SOG, COG, WIND...etc)

Work around: Closing and relaunching OCPN

What I have done
: I can confirm this is related to OCPN as other App's TCP Network Input are not affected upon waking up from sleep.

Please advise if I can help further.

Sergio

Re: Beta Test / Technical

I have seen similar, in my case it can be restarted by disabling the connection in settings and then re-enabling it.

Furthermore, connection freezes each time any setting are changed upon exiting or applying the Main Options Window

Re: Beta Test / Technical

System:OCPN 5.8.4 running on Windows 11

Problem: OpenCPN always crashes when using Radar plugin with ARPA enabled after dozens of minutes of "normal" functionning

Conditions: I use OpenCPN as such:
- Using NMEA Converter Pi to send pre-configured RMC and HDT sentences so that a Navico Halo 20 plots ARPA
- Using Radar Pi to control the Radar
- I don't interact in any way with OpenCPN after starting the radar

Description: After 15 to 60 minutes of normal functionning, OpenCPN crashes without generating any crash report (pop-up "error launching CrashSender.exe"). This only append if a guard zone is configured with ARPA detection ON.

Since when: I've been dealing with this bug since mid August. I've never seen OpenCPN continuously run for more than 1h10 (this morning) with ARPA ON.

Debugging tools: I've attached to this post the .ini file as well as .log file related to the latest crash that occured this morning. The launch that generated a crash started at 11h53 and the crash occured at 13h04. The guard zone has been set to a circle of 10 meters to 10 km at 12h00. The beggining of the logfile is actually me adding layers to my configuration one by one to understand which one causes OpenCPN to crash:
- 9h41 = radar pi activated, NMEA converter pi activated but no NMEA0183 sentence configured
- 10h45 = radar pi activated, NMEA converter Pi activated with preconfigured RMC and HDT sentences set
- 11h53 = radar pi activated with guard zone ARPA ON configured, NMEA converter Pi activated with preconfigured RMC and HDT sentences set

I hope this is the right place to report this, have a nice day !

When ARPA is not enabled, there is no crash?
How many targets did the ARPA system register? You will not find this in the log file, but the target id's are sequential and give a good indication. Hover the mouse over the target to see the target id.
Alternatively you could turn ARPA logging on, set VerboseLog=32 in the opencpn.ini file. But this will generate a tremendous amount of logging, proportional to the number of targets. But this log file might give me a clue on what is happening.

Re: Beta Test / Technical

And this is not the right place for radar_pi related issues, better use one of the radar plugin threads or even better file an issue in https://github.com/opencpn-radar-pi/radar_pi

Hi,
I can't have access to the radar until next monday, but I did some acquisitions back in september where I extracted ARPA data from OpenCPN with Wireshark, I link to this post one pdf that was originally .csv files for which each line corresponds to an RMC sentence.
In this case, OpenCPN crashed after only 2min30 while following less than 10 ARPA simultanously. This morning it's been following at least 20 different ARPA for an hour. So I don't think the cause of the crash is a saturation in the number of ARPA followed.

I'll try what you advised on monday, thanks !

This is not the place to bore readers with details of this case, so use the above issue management or mail me directly df at percussion.nl

Re: Beta Test / Technical

Hey everybody,

I'm trying to compile some plugins on Ubuntu 20.04. It puts the plugin file in /usr/local/lib/opencpn/, but opencpn only searches in /home/marcb/.local/lib/opencpn;/usr/lib/opencpn.

I have tried to do
Code:
sudo make install/local
but to no avail. How can I install in the right place?

Thx!

Re: Beta Test / Technical

Ok, this particular plugin I'm working on seems to allow me to simply copy the _pi.so file from /usr/local/lib/opencpn/ to the $HOME/.local/lib/opencpn/ directory, but I'm not sure that always works out well, so I'm still curious for the canonical way to get it done.

Re: Beta Test / Technical

Read your logfile, or post it here, please. Nothing special is required during the compilation to enable OpenGL (If you follow the compilation instructions).

Re: Beta Test / Technical

From the logfile it seems you did really not build OpenGL support at all, are you sure you correctly followed the instructions from https://opencpn-manuals.github.io/ma...dev/linux.html?
