Hi Folks:
I've got six years of high
school left. Not for me but for the
kids. When they were both in grammar
school we could take them out of school for a week or two and it didn't matter b/c we could catch them up or do the
work they missed in school while on the
boat. In high school this becomes harder. I live in
California so the cruising is pretty good but not great. In other words I would rather
cruise Mexico in the
winter then So
Cal in the summer. But this idea jumped into my
head what about a summer time
circumnavigation. Sail the
boat somewhere as the
kids get out of school and then leave it there while they are in school and then come back the next summer. This plan would also
work well for school teachers. I'm not sure it is possible but thought if we all worked on it maybe there is a way to do it. It wouldn't be as good as a nice ten year circle but at least it would get me started.
So here is what I've come up with off the top of my
head:
West Coast to
Hawaii in June of summer one. Then take the boat to the line Islands and thru to
French Polynesia in summer two. Well I'm going to start digging into Jimmy Cornell's book and see how to avoid hurricanes and where I would feel comfortable leaving my boat. I had got as far as
Singapore before I decided to right this down and to challenge the forum members to come up with a plan.
