Challenge: Post your To-Do List that you think keeps you from leaving today.

Here's mine. Pretty long. Some pretty tough items. Pretty cool that I'm out here cruising SE Asia. Contrary to the implication of the list, she's in pretty much perfect cruising condition. So I'm pretty much ignoring the list:

rebed deck hardware
replace all lighting w/ LED inside and out
finish repair on refrigerator and replace
rewire boat (not necessary, husband is a perfectionist engineer)
install SSB/modem
install chart plotter
upgrade house battery bank
install solar panel
replace running rigging
order and install new main sail
install watermaker
replace berth cushions/mattresses
install Frolis system
rebuild head
remove fore head and convert to workroom/apres storage
finish repair on AC unti and reinstall
make and install lee cloths
continue the davits/no davits debate
install new companion way boards
install screens on prts andharches
make and install port "curtains"
clean all tanks

my to do list for in port is short-- 4 items-- chain plates, deck backing plate and packing gland(replace in full). oh yes--electrical panel --minor work---
the rest, whatever it is can be done at sea or elsewhere.

A boat that sails

Although I am contemplating an adventurous trip through Alaska's inside passage in my 16' motor boat. Though it would need some mods also.

Mine is probably going to draw some snickers, but here goes:

Another 250' of 1 1/4" anchor rode.
Gypsy for 3/4" chain.
Rebuild forward shower (remove tile, replace with something utilitarian)
Haul-out and re-do the bottom paint - probably the whole thing.
Clean, grind and re-weld half dozen 6" spots near some of my portholes.
Purchase another ~650watts of solar power to total 1kw.
Hook up my second inverter for the extra 120amps of charging capacity.
Purchase ~3,000 amp hours (12v) of batteries.
Repair my AirX wind gen.
MPPT controller for my solar array.
(edited to add) Two smallish chest freezers for storing meat and dairy products (yes, I mean ice cream).

Then, I'm basically ready for a nonstop circumnav, sans food and topping off the fuel tanks. That's the goal, but until then I'm good with hanging out here in the tropics. Under protest, of course

Ours is sort of a wishlist in the back of our logbook (which hardly ever gets used for logging trips - the GPS takes care of that!); and it gets pulled out twice a year when we either have a row ("you still haven't done this!") or have a moment of enthusiasm for doing stuff ("ooh, let's do this now!")

I need some of the things mentioned but didn't make a list so I don't have to even think of them. The freezer needs insulation or rebuild but it works as is, just a little amp hungry. So at the crack of dawn tomorrow I am off to who knows where, just north for some amount of time.

A lot of these items can be done on the road, which I think people should consider.

But I do appreciate the lists as I can use these for my own consideration.

You can do all that crappy work at anchor anywhere in the butter-melted world. you only have yourselves to blame for being tied to the dick procrastinating.

Now if you want MY worklist...........

It just got longer!!!!!!

I drove 'Lil Dink past some fishermen this morning - waved to them all - saw them drop the tips of their rods......... got home with the 3.3 racing engine a little bit 'off'.... pulled the engine off the dink like I have to after EVERY trip (the dink sinks ) and found a brand new sinker! 4 hooks, beacutifully attached to the line with swivels all the best way to do a line - must have taken the old coot an hour to make up....
So I look between the prop and the leg and I see just a little bit more line..... Pulled it out.

Job complete?


..... or would you pull the prop off to make sure?


So's eyes pulls the prop off (takes a while cos some goose never does it and greases it) and there neatly spooooooooled around the shaft is about 3,000000000000000000000000000 yards of fishing line!


Moral to the story: Doing this where I am is better than doing it where you are.

I've managed to cross out most of my to-do list. Being unemployed the last month and a half has given me lots of time to work on it. But I've chosen to ignore quite a few things on the list (not necessary or too expensive), and I'm sure there are a ton of fixes I haven't even though of yet. Our boat doesn't have all the bells a whistles, I think only one bell and a couple of whistles, but we'll make do with what we have. People have been sailing for centuries without radar and water-makers, so I think we can, too.
We're heading out in 2 weeks, so I guess we'll see what we forgot once we're under way. Excited and nervous at the same time!

Once the chainplates are good, rigging done and nav lights are finished we can go. Everything else is "nice to have" but not necessary.

Does anyone have any experience in those cutters you can put on your drive shaft to cut fouling fishing lines? Think i might add one to my TODO list.
