Re: Which AIS antenna splitter

Thanks. I did try to download that, but it timed out because I am on such a poor connection. I just tried again with no luck. It must be a large file.

Can anyone help a poor guy out and tell me what they spec for losses?

Mark

You do not need a parachute to skydive. You only need a parachute to skydive twice.

Re: Which AIS antenna splitter

Well those look good - right up there with the Vesper, Navico, Sci-tex, and that other one I'm forgetting. It seems like the days of high-loss splitters are ending and more good ones are widely available.

My old boat was stored inside of a metal aircraft hangar and the 740S was installed under a metal T top, but even inside of a closed metal building the thing tracked satellites with only a little degradation, newer GPS's are phenomenal.
I mounted an external GPS antenna for my AIS on the stern rail. There is a bimini and an arch with solar panels not that far away. It worked great for a long time. But now that I have transitioned to the southern hemisphere I find it dropping GPS fixes on occasion as the boat rotates. I suspect that the angle of the satellites is different down here and that highlights the mounting position issues.

I had a similar problem when flying well above the Arctic Circle. I assumed it was because the Satellites were so low on the horizon.
Good point though as my Vesper works fine in Florida does not mean it will be fine in other parts of the world.

Fortunately that's higher latitudes than I plan to go

The enclosure looks to be exactly the same as the Si-Tex splitter. Probably the same manufacturer.
