I have read, not sure how true? That there are enterprising salvage tugs cruising the world looking for “rescues” and therefore a % of vessel value. The issue, of course, is how to get in contact with the best deal.
I overheard a ssb conversation between an older couple in a sailboat in GOM and uscg- norfolk. Got caught in heavy seas, seasick and desperate to get off. USCG said, we can arrange to get u off the boat, but the boat will be left adrift. Since all they had was on the boat, they reconsidered.
