Speakers for Our TV

Hi,

I have a question for the audio buffs. We have a nice little flat screen tv in our salon, but the sound is terrible. I'm trying to figure out an inexspesive compact way and preferably use 12volts for a receiver that will allow more speakers.

Has anyone used an auto receiver? Or does anyone have an idea for this type of application?

I have mine hooked up to the Aux input of my Clarion CMD4 stereo. Works good much better sound for movies. I am guessing the audio buffs will have better ideas but this is simple and works well for me.

I do the same as Wayne....through my stereo systems aux input....

I use the laptop for movies in the cockpit..and they work through the stereo's aux input too...

The most energy efficient way to have good sound is to run the audio out of your audio source, whether it is a DVD player, BlueRay player or whatever, into the auxiliary input of a 12 volt car stereo type system. You can even install a DVD or BluRay optical drive in a computer and run the sound outputs of the motherboards on board sound or sound card outputs to your aux input. There are some pretty amazingly good sounding car audio systems, amplifiers, small speakers and subwoofers in a box out there. The fact that they can be powered by 12 volt DC makes them efficient and convenient. It would be pretty cool to set up an onboard 5.1 surround sound system for watching movies.

I found a car unit that plays DVD's in 5.1 surround sound, and connect it through car amps to Bose Jewels - those little cubes. I can listen to music with 12 volt only, and watch movies in surround sound with a 120 volt flatscreen. Then I hooked up my iPhone through the television and the car stereo, so I can watch downloaded movies as well.

it's not a perfect set-up, and it's a work in progress, but it's great to have a home theater experience on the boat.

Get a Yamaha sound projector. It uses dopler technology to create surround sound. I use one with a 12v. sub-wolfer with great results.
