Re: NSS 12 clock problems?

The USCG is not the Better Business Bureau.

Read the thread. The problem is time and date. How is that a hazard?

Re: NSS 12 clock problems?

Re: NSS 12 clock problems?

Maybe. But it could be due to the MFD not knowing when it is. I'd imagine AIS transmissions would contain time/date info, which wouldn't mesh with the 2099 date the MFD thinks it's in.

Otherwise it's quite a coincidence.

Can anyone with late model Navico gear comment? Does their AIS still work on an affected MFD?

I did hear people discussing their AIS having stopped working on the VHF, but never thought to call and ask if it was Navico equipment.

Well, tide stuck on the wrong date could certainly be a hazard to navigation.

Re: NSS 12 clock problems?

If you need an MFD to tell you the tide, you are the hazard to navigation.

Re: NSS 12 clock problems?

received today from Simrad

We have identified the problem which as to do with GPS chip in you NSS8. The problem is being worked addressed and as soon as we have a solution it will be released. I do not know when the fix will be available but if you wish you can purchase a GS25 GPS antenna which will resolve the problem for you now. The GS25 has a newer GPS ship in it.

There is a whole bunch of mis-information about this problem. It is not unique to Navico, but some Garmin units and other brands as well.

The manufacturer of the GPS chip screwed up, and nobody did any rigorous testing.

Swapping in another GPS will fix SOME problems, but not all... See here for the other kinds of problems that can come up... https://fetchinketch.net/2018/12/09/...ke-it-is-2099/

Thanks for that. I wouldn't have been all that happy about having to spend $300 to fix this. Spending it to NOT fix it would really piss me off.
