Furuno 1622 radar - fix or change

We got a Furuno 1622 radar with the boat when we got it. I find it incredibly handy for late night approaches to Marigot and Anguilla harbours, watching for unlit boats, and we tend to arrive after dark pretty often.
The 1622 display has some lines in it, making it a little hard to use. I can see the reflections pretty well but the text is a bit tough.
So the question is, should I look for a replacement display or look to a new unit? I don't have anything else to compare with, I don't know how much better a new unit would be. I seen a new display for $150, seems like an easy upgrade, but would I be better keeping that money towards a new display.
If the new one adds a few features but doesn't really give me any more information, I'm not ready to spend thousands to get that.

Re: Furuno 1622 radar - fix or change

I’ve got a 1622 display that I’d be willing to sell.

Our 1622 radar returns became weak to non-existent and I purchased a used display to rule out the display card vs the magnetron. Turns out our dome is bad, and it’s cost prohibitive to repair.

The display (actually two displays and the scanner) are in Houston. I’ll sell you one of the displays for $150 plus shipping.

Is the display perfect?

Let me collect the perfect display off of the boat today and we’ll go from there.

This is the better of the two displays.

Low hours and has lived inside. My dome is bad, as confirmed by another 1622 display.

I may have an old radar dome. I could take it's guts out for smaller shipping. It's getting tossed either way. I have to check if it's a 1622. Came off a friends boat.

Why do I want to use a white cane? I don't get that reference.

Re: Furuno 1622 radar - fix or change

I have two complete Furuno radomes, one of which is new, and 3 displays of unknown condition as well as one set of cables. I would sell all for $500.00 plus shipping. I will send photos if requested.

Well, if you are the Guitar playing, singing, entertainer that I know, you have a sense of humour. So a long cane to feel the bottom when entering at night, instead of the Radar.

Hey, Is Charlie well, I have not heard from him in ages.

Re: Furuno 1622 radar - fix or change

Hi Folks just read this forum when I was searching the internet for a Furuno 1622 control panel. I bought my boat with a black spot in the middle of the screen. I took the panel in to Radio Holland and they advised me that the LCD screen needs replacing.
I’m interested in buying a control panel if someone has one for sale

Kind Regards

RR
