AIS700 GPS Output to E80

Bit of Background...
I have the following installed:
Raymarine E80
Raystar 120 Antenna
Raymarine AIS700
PW Datahub

The GPS antenna is in a 2004 Date Loop, apparently due to a firmware update that cant be fixed. The datahub cant process the Tracking Data due the very old date.

Replacement Raystar120's are hard to come by and expensive.

The AIS is sending the E80 good data for AIS Ships nearby. Shows up on the plotter nicely.

Question is....Can I also take the AIS Position Data for the E80 AND the PW datahub?

Re: AIS700 GPS Output to E80

Generally yes you could use an AIS's GPS data to feed the E80 and Datahub, however in practice the AIS700 has limitations that make that difficult. ie: the NMEA0183 output on the AIS700 (based on other users) has problems supplying the correct data for the chartplotter, etc to use.

I would recommend looking at the Raystar 150 and adding the SeatalkNG to Seatalk1 or SeatalkNG to NMEA0183 converter. Or a Yacht Devices YDNR-02/etc or similar NMEA router/gateway that can take the SeaTalkNG network data over to NMEA0183 and Seatalk1.

The Datahub wants NMEA2000 data anyway, so build a SeaTalkNG or NMEA2000 backbone if there is not already one there, connect the new GPS, your AIS700, and the Datahub to that. Connect the YDNR-02R to both the SeaTalkNG and SeaTalk1 networks and everything will be integrated. Plus later if you decide it's time to upgrade the Chartplotter, you simply connect the new one to the NMEA2000/SeatalkNG backbone and it's done.

Re: AIS700 GPS Output to E80

the ais is probably sending gps info at 38,400 with the ais data. but the plotter may not be able to use it. since it's hooked up. I'm going to assume it doesn't accept it? otherwise it'd already be doing that. if you unplug the seatalk cable for gps do you lose gps pos?

an option would be to take gps from the 2nd low speed output from the ais. the problem is the plotter only has one nmea input.
