Yanmar SD20 top shaft seal replacement.

Hi All

I need to replace the input shaft seal on my SD20 sail drive. Approx 8000 hrs

I have been told it is possible to do this with the boat in the water.

I have enough room to move the engine forward 100mm

Has anyone done this? Any advise appreciated.

Is there any risk to the membrane?

Why would the seal fail in the first place.

Can't answer your primary question, but WRT the membrane, perhaps my experience can help.

I sailed our cat with one engine removed for rebuild. W/o the support of the engine, the SD20 moved around when sailing, but caused no problem.
