Re: Who are your favourite boat bloggers / vloggers?

We've just returned from a fun trip and have to plug (no pun intended )my wife again and she is really putting a lot of time into figuring this out (both sailing and the videos) and getting much better at both!

+1 on Emerald Steel. I stumbled across their vids a while ago. Real people doing real things. About the only one I still watch (not that I watch much these days).

for Emerald Steel. If you were only going to watch one Vlog to learn about cruising, you could do a lot worse!

Re: Who are your favourite boat bloggers / vloggers?

Yup Emerald Steel is the real deal. I wish I had those skills. While I didn't build ours and she doesn't seem to share much similarity with Emerald Steel beyond the material, I do spend a hell of a lot of time keeping her going, as she turns 50 next year. Steel boats are cool! I had a couple of smaller gaffers as I kid and I loved them.

Here's our latest. Mid to high 20's across the deck and a big ebb made for a quick but lumpy ride. Hard to pick that up on the video unless you watch the dog.

Hi, here's the latest video of our spring cruise with our Swan 431 "CAID". We had a eventful cruise at the Baltic Sea with windspeeds of 40 knots and more, almost collided with a submarine, etc.

Hey Bleemus - I still don't understand how Alex doesn't have twice as many viewers. He has become my favorite now. Especially when he is visiting different cities and really immersing himself in the history/art/population of the cities he visits. I especially enjoyed his visits along the Spanish coast and all the festivals he went to.

If you haven't seen Alex - check out Winded Voyage.

I agree. If he gets bikinis on the boat his numbers would soar.

Re: Who are your favourite boat bloggers / vloggers?

Still dig SV Delos, Vaga and RAN, and was really into Emerald Steel until we watched an episode where they (very gently) seemed to take a few pokes at the others. It seemed a little in bad taste - better just to do your own thing well and let others do theirs rather than knock them down.

Lately I have been watching Sail Surf Roam, which initially I found annoying. They're proper sailors and surfers out there doing it, and having just done 2800 miles (delivery) in a modern fast cat, I can relate to it.

Some news from us. We are going cruising. . Components:

1) 49 year old 42' Dutch built custom steel boat.
2) 9 year old American dog
3) Me - Canadian, Dad/Captain, sailing and working in the industry (until now)!.
3) Mom - German/American, mate and everything else, new to long distance sailing.
4) Mats - our 3 year old boy.
5) Kruiser - Canadian/Dutch 6'8 giant, ex pro bballer turned pro gambler. Mate, surfer and adventurer.

What could go wrong?

Check us out if you like. We leave in less than one month. To Sail or Not To be:

I'd like to throw our hats into the ring. We were inspired by Distant Shores 10 years ago. We've been saving and prepping our lives ever since and are over the moon to be underway. We have finally escaped the 9-to-5, sold everything, and set sail.

Re: Who are your favourite boat bloggers / vloggers?

Sv Delos has really taken their weekly videos to a whole new level. Content, editing ... clearly they have taken their channel videos seriously and professionally while still maintaining thier own vibe. There is a reason their Patreon is over $12, 000 per weekly video.

Delos just released some extra content ( don’t count as patreon ) a 6 part conversation with Captain Fatty that I found fascinating.

Yes, seamanship, very practical, and cost effective.
