How many "world's greatest sailors" are there? And, how many of them are on this forum?

**Warning - Thread drift**

What makes a great sailor. I should imagine everyone's views differ.
My vote go to all those single-handers on small boats and little financial resources. Those that most of us have never heard of or are very unlikely to do so ... To them my forelock is eternally tugged.

Thanks for watching us

I don't think most of the Vloggers are in it for the money but it is just a means to an end of funding their dreams... for example Nike from white spots is our neighbour and we were talking about how she started patreon, and it was because her viewers suggested it - she was already realising her dreams and was prepared to do what ever it takes.
It is also a lot of work filming/editing etc, I spend around six to eight hours just on the video editing and our films are not cinematic quality like some of them! Not too mention the filming, social media updates, sound recording, searching for music etc, on top of our volunteer work and boat jobs it is a busy life and I certainly feel like I'm working a bit haha
And we are definitely not the worlds greatest sailors but hope the more we do the more we will learn, like anything there is only one way to get better and that's practice!

Re: Who are your favourite boat bloggers / vloggers?

I just watched the sv Delos question and answer episode. Brady wasn't there but it was good to hear some questions getting answered. I just wish Bryan wasn't so vague when he answers questions about money.

I've just come across this and I think it is very good. Different from most others.

Money is pretty important and something I remembered researching a lot. That's why I started posting all my expenses, but it's hard to keep up with all the receipts, etc. Budgeting - COUCHSAILORS - I'll have to update that sometime soon, maybe with amounts per month/per year so it's simpler.

Re: Who are your favourite boat bloggers / vloggers?

Hi guys,

It's almost certainly not the best on youtube, but we've just started our video channel, and we've got a blog up, available here:

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCT9...j0mJjC4LWGH26g

and here:

Sailing Kittiwake | A Sailing Blog

We're sailing from the UK down to the Mediterranean, in a budget catamaran and making our money along the way.

I'll check out your blog.

Beemus - Alex is pretty awesome. Winded Voyage has quickly become one of my favorites. His perspective on the culture and arts of the places he visits is a unique and enjoyable experience.

Another one that is worth keeping an eye on is Sailing The Sea Bear (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCa1...ZaY7f3CiIQ3k1Q). A vet who decided to retire from the military and go to film school. Now heading up the coast of California to Alaska. Another great story teller who gets the viewer involved in the non-typical aspects of travel.

Re: Who are your favourite boat bloggers / vloggers?

We're huge fans of Delos, but I also enjoy La Vagabonde. I think comments/concerns that it's become too commercial are unfounded as I think they do a pretty good job of keeping that end of it to a minimum. And, who among us wouldn't take that Outremer deal given the chance!

I also enjoy SV Rad Mode - they are really going for it and with a minimalist budget!

And now I must give my wife a plug - it's amazing how much time/effort is involved taking photos and video, and then compiling it all into something that may be interesting for others. It's become a real hobby for her (perhaps one day it will earn a few bucks ). Currently the focus is on camping on the water through BC as we make our way back to our boats down south, but there is a lot of cool stuff on Bermuda and the America's Cup (including a personal signing with Nathan Outteridge of Artemis!) as we have just spent three months working there.

Hope you enjoy!

I took a look a your blog. Nice boat, I had the chance to sail on an Oyster named Britican from St. Thomas to Florida. I think I saw Simon in one of your pictures. Looks like you know them! Great blog, I will have to take a look at some of the articles.

Re: Who are your favourite boat bloggers / vloggers?

This is just a personal comment and not a judgement or criticism on what anyone does and why?
Each to their Own!

I'll use the analogy of Scuba Diving.

When I go down with a spear gun or a video camera, some form of tunnel vision happens within me.

I am only looking at what is good to eat or angles for good footage.
I have closed off the other receptors that would make the experience uniquely personal.

For me, if I was a video blogger, I would deprive myself of that free flowing association of my environment, because of that documentary agenda.

Call me selfish, but I am not interested !
