Man.......... I totally forgot about that sub-set........

Can't afford a 350k boat like the winns and then spend another 300k on the refit........

Not a bad call just now, but possibly will be rethought when they reach the Southern Ocean and the edge of the ice... and the mast fails, or the last panel of the mainsail has blown out or...

There’s probably only one small bottle for rounding Cape Horn, and/or a single cigar. There’s still plenty of race to go, but it’s like getting to the summit of Mt. Everest.

True story: I carried a pony bottle (half size, 375ml) of champagne hidden in an inner chest pocket of my down jacket when my climbing partner and I attempted a winter ascent up a technical route on Mt Rainier. We got to the top after three brutal days of ice and snow climbing and as I triumphantly pulled out the bottle and removed the top, it was frozen solid. By the time we walked down the tourist route to the lodge (unfortunately closed for the winter, so we just had our cold van for comfort) it had thawed, but was completely flat. We drank it anyway.

Dom Perignon stories

One of the truths is most of us sailboat cruisers don't have that.

There's a long and proud tradition of climbers sneaking alcohol to the top of hard climbs. Look up "Batso" Warren Harding sometime. I just carried scotch in a flask personally, but I tended to climb smaller, shorter technical routes...lol

Even as a broke kid living on a Cal25, I had decent alcohol on board (not Dom though...lol). Life is far too short for crappy alcohol. ;-)

Another serious truth here in Florida, boats tend to be anchored and moored near sources of invisible flying biting teeth.

We've noticed this various places around the world, too, with the boats of shallower draft anchoring in closer to the sources of invisible flying biting teeth. It has proved to our benefit to anchor much further out, and in windier places.

Noseeums and sandflies are on my hate list, along with mozzies.

So that's why sailors drink so much, they're miserable?
