Oday Water Pressure

Hey Guys & Gals,

Have a 32 foot Oday and can't get the water pressure to come up. The pump comes on but won't turn off. Should I change the filter or ?

You've most likely got a leak in the system somewhere...

Re: Oday Water Pressure

Welcome to the forum, Sea Sherpa.

The pump is controlled by a pressure switch on the front. If it won't shut off, and no water is coming out at the faucet, there is likely a leak, as LittleWing suggests, or the diaphram/valves in the pump may have failed, so it cannot produce pressure. Testing to find the cause is in order.

First, is water coming out somewhere on the pressure side - an open faucet or a leak accumulating water? If not, has the pump got water, as in the tank not being empty, and water flowing out the end of the hose on the vacuum side of the pump when you disconnect the hose from the pump? If the pump is getting water, and there is not a leak on the pressure side, then the failure is in the pump. We can eliminate a failure of the switch, because the pump is running but produces no pressure. If you've gotten this far without finding a problem, then you've got a failure within the pump, with a failed diaphram or failed one-way valve (duck bill valve) in the pump. At that point you either disassemble the pump and find the problem or replace the pump.

If you've gotten this far and ae not really up on pump repairs, my recommendation is that you replace the pump first, demonstrate that you were correct - it now works, and then approach the repair. The worst result will be your having a spare pump for the future. That's not a bad outcome.

+1 for advice above to trouble shoot your water system. Would clean the filter and check everything before the pump to make sure you don't have any air leaks. Also check for shut off valves before the filter/pump that maybe stopping water flow.
What type of pump do you have (older diaphragm or new flojet style)? The older diaphragm style will generally pump if it gets water to it while the newer pumps will not prime if worn. Flojet pumps can generally be easily and cheaply rebuilt.

As previously mentioned, your 1st order of business is to make certain you are getting water to the pump, then out directly at the pump outlet.

You were correct. There was a loose fitting, with a quick turn the pump turned off. Glad it was so simple. Now have to figure out why the toilet isn't pumping water.

Raw water seacocks? Thru hull muscle growth? Bad check valve in pump assembly?
