I have a love/hate (mostly hate) relationship with CBC's first-person interest stories. At least that one made me laugh.

Well, I wish him luck.

Just one question, what happens in the Spring when the ice starts to melt and huge great blocks start moving down stream speeding along with the current?

Can someone explain his boat’s construction???

“ He believes his hull — with its wooden frame, concrete and fibreglass construction — is strong enough to withstand the ice. ”

Re: Living at anchor in Canadian Winter

This is what many spring breakups look like in N.B.

Boatpoker you know he will probably survive fine and wonder what all the fuss was about. I had newbie clients who anchored their cat in an exposed anchorage for a whole year. Never dragged and they wondered why lots of people were concerned about their vessel. Some people just get lucky.
We have four yachts on the beach at Tin Can Bay at the moment, so your luck can run out in the end.
Cheers

Watch the video that Deblen just posted from the same geographic area and reconsider

The video is from about a 2hr. drive away and is not subject to the infamous Fundy 35' tides like where this vessel is anchored.

Boatpoker for some reason that video was blocked so I had to find it on Youtube. I am not sure what you are worried about. That bridge is made of concrete and so is the yacht a concrete hybrid, so in theory if you can secure it well enough then like he says it will just be a bit of paint that gets rubbed off!
Maybe he is just going to sit on the bow with a flame thrower and melt the ice as it comes towards him!
Cheers

Whatever gave you the impression that I'm worried ?

I'd guess you have not witnessed the damage a breaking ice jam can do.

PS. That bridge was destroyed by the ice.

Re: Living at anchor in Canadian Winter

Sounds like his bilge pump outlet froze, for one thing.
Would be interesting to know if there was any other cause.

The aerial drone view shows very thin ice-for this time of year.
It has been a relatively mild winter in N.B. & no signs of ice movement(crushing).

Re: Living at anchor in Canadian Winter

Sad.

Not surprising, but sad.

To be clear: sad for the boat. I don't care about the owner.
