Re: Important things we don't talk about much

I hadn't realized before just this thread how high tech flyswatters had become.

Have no fear - fly catching robots are right around the corner: Fly-catching robot developed by Stanford scientists speeds biomedical research

Misplaced technology. I don't want to catch and analyse the flies, I want to keep them away or if not that just kill them!

With that lets add bug spray to the important list (again). The last time I had a fly invasion in the cockpit I directly sprayed a fly with the repellent and all that happened was the fly danced, yes danced.

Fly swatters! We don't need no stinkin' fly swatters!!!

Just wait for 'em to light on the overhead and they're gone. Kids love the competitive game enough that they'll let flys IN!!!

There's always the hair-spray and cigarette-lighter option....

Although you do need to be careful around combustibles, like canvas, Dacron, etc.

Don't do this at home. YMMV....

Re: Important things we don't talk about much

Yeah, and if your name's not Bronwyn Bishop (ie: no hairspray) you can always get by with WD40....

we used to use that to 'instant-inflate' 4WD tyres if they rolled off the rim, to reseat the bead. Simply remove tyre valve. INsert stem of WD40 spray can. HGold down trigger for two seconds. Apply ignition source to hole.

We also warned other people NOT to do this, as too much gas could cause a fatal tyre explosion, but a second or two was usually enough to reseat the beads.

Then replace the tyre valve and inflate with your 12V pump.

Hmmmm... sensing a new thread here. Like Mythbusters 1001 Things To Do With Duct Tape, what about 101 Things To Do with WD40..???

Our books have gotten 5 star reviews on Amazon. Several readers have written "I never thought I would go on a circumnavigation, but when I read these books, I was right there in the cockpit with Vinni and Carsten"

Coloured yellow, so as not to fwighten anybody. It shoots salt, is pump action, but doesn't have a bayonet lug or the shoulder thingy that goes up. You may have inconvenience when customs demand your ammo as well....
I have one of these. It is fantastic. The hardest part is finding whatever you shot with it after for disposal.

Re: Important things we don't talk about much

I want to hang a map of the world in my house. Then I'm going to put pins into all the locations that I've sailed to. But first, I'm going to have to sail to the top two corners of the map so it won’t fall down.

We go to great lengths to keep salt OUT of our boat. Not sure I would want to start shooting it around all over the inside…
