It is a centerboard Don. Just been to see her. Nice and solid and clean. Survey next few days.
No smells down below. No water coming in from ports or hatches. Engine access much better than I expected. Decks look good too.
New standing rigging, ground tackle, and a touch up of the antifouling, and she looks good to go. Broker recommends getting other things done further south with more competitive labour costs. Probably pay to get led nav lights, mast mount for radar, etc done before the mast is stepped though.

In good news with the new ESTA travel arrangements, I have paved the way with going to USA with a single ticket. I was told at airport ESTA could only be used with a return ticket, so I asked how I get a 5 ton boat on the plane. After some discussion, all was ok with a single ticket.
TSA and CBP people were very good to deal with (I didn't get probed).
PS. Couldn't get any angles to take photos, as things were a bit tight. I"ll get some when she"s going to be launched. Steady applications of tlc and I think she'll come very good.

Re: Got a plastic classic?

Oh dear what a pity, never mind.

Luckily it was pouring with rain during the survey. Areas with no signs of leaks in the dry, were leaking like a sieve. One area of wet core by the starboard genoa track which would need sorting pronto, plus stanchion rebedding. Chainplates looked good but leaking bad, need removing and properly rebedding.

Hull and bulkheads in fantastic condition, and if I lived local to the boat, with no time restrictions about leaving USA, I'd have taken it on.

Paul the surveyor was worth every penny. Really nice guy too.

On with the search.

To post a picture here just resize the shot to a reasonable size and put it on the desktop of your computer. Then hit "reply" here and when you get the box click on the paper clip above the box. You'll get a box with buttons saying "browse" and click one, find your photo on the desktop and choose it, then hit "upload." Then "submit reply." I think I got all that right. On the "Plastic Classics" group you can post pictures too there. If you already have an album made of photos it is especially easy because there is a button at the bottom of the box with your album photos that says something like "add to a group."

Re: Got a plastic classic?

1976 Pearson 30, hull #800

Balsa rot on the deck at penetrations, almost the entire cockpit floor due to the wheel pedestal. Stripped and repainted pedestal. Pulley plate replaced, so steering cable also replaced.

This year, painting top sides with more balsa repairs, plugs of filled resin at all bolt holes. New chain plates. Pulled head and holding tank to replace with composting toilet. Replace electronics, filling holes in cockpit bulkhead. May be warm enough to do resin work this weekend!

Next year, drop the rudder and fix the leaks in it. Not looking forward to getting that quadrant off the rudder post.

Great! The group is up to 62 members and counting. Still waiting though for those photos and greetings! Give us a little blurb about your boat too!

Re: Got a plastic classic?

I have a 1965 Alberg 35 with an anchor windlass that has no markings as to its origin. Can anyone help identify this?

Thanks!

Hey all, thanks for the photos and greetings. When posting a greeting don't forget to tell us what kind of boat you have, and any links or info are great too.
