Re: Got a plastic classic?

After 2 years of hard work, our 1982 Cape Dory 33, Anteris, launched yesterday. She is not complete by any means, but the rest will get done as we cruise. We sold our house and retired on June 30. We now begin the process of moving aboard and getting ready for the journey south this fall. Finally realizing our dreams on an amazing boat. Feeling very blessed.

Mine is a 76 and hull, deck and rudder are very sound. If there is osmosis or blister/delamination in the hull I haven't discovered it yet and I tap check each year on haul out. I have even removed head liner and taken deck core samples around the mast hole and chainplate areas, looked like day it was built.
The hull construction is pretty thick, can't see there being that extent of osmosis or blistering, fibre glassing on the hull is very heavily applied, I'm sure there is lots to work with for repairs if need be.
There is a video on youtube of a repair being carried out to a nic31 which has some blisters, worth a view.

Yes 13k displacement for a 31 ft boat is evident when you step on from the dock, its the same as stepping on to a fixed pier, no movement.
I've since found out they did build some in 1982, would like to find out
the history of my Nich 31 "Wolverine" formaly "Desormais II" and Country of build, some were built in Australia, Hull No: WNZ4980CA282
Any help would be much appreciated.

Beautiful oldragbaggers! I am a big fan of Cape Dories. I am a wee bit envious. Fair winds! I hope she takes you everywhere you want to go!

Very happy for you.

Sheesh ! What a beauty! I'm drooling on the keyboard. Do you have a "before" picture in here somewhere? Keep us in the loop! More photos and where are you headed?

Cruisers & Sailing Forums - Plastic Classics

88 members and growing! Great, but I can see some of you have joined but have not posted any greetings. You can't get your set of Ginzu knives that way! Boat ownership not required. Shoes and shirt not required. Irrational affection for things that most other folks call "inanimate" is helpful.

Anyone have or had a Columbia 26 MK1? Got photos of any refitting?

Thank you very much for those nice comments. Right now we are in temporary quarters, working like crazy and in a state of chaos, so I am very disorganized. Once we get settled aboard I plan to do a blog post with bride and after pictures. I will post a link to it when I do.
