Yeah, my cap'n lost his favorite hat when we chartered in the Virgin Islands. We shared the boat with someone we didn't care for much* and when he fell overboard in the middle of the Drake channel and the hat fell overboard too, we were sort of conflicted deciding which to rescue first..

Yeah, my bro' can be a great bother too, like the time he sunk my Fireball in an inlet.
Are you British? I initially learned to sail a Fireball on Draycott Water in Warwickshire in the freezing cold and pouring rain (aka British summer).

Im a member of the Society of Creative Anachronism, so a nifty steel helmet is my choice for when the boom can clunk me. That or a tricorn. In reality I wear a Tilley's classic Ive have for many years on and off the water. Perfect hat for me.

Yep. Funny that, I used to sail a Fireball out of Langstone Harbour near Portsmouth, UK. It seems we spent most of our time running into sandbars as it's tidal.

At least we could sail in the freezing British winter rain. Here the water's a bit hard for 4 months of the year...we're looking forward to getting out of lockdown in the next couple of weeks and launching for the lovely Ontario summer!

SuW, Your newbie quote is My Wife's exact sentiment. Lost Biker, I think You should add a new word to Your vocab : " DUCK " !! Solves the boom problem. All the Best. Fair Winds.......... MRF

I always thought it was a Sou' Easter also. It probably depends on where you are from?

Hah - ye of little faith. If you sail up the Hudson you'll find that West Point does indeed have a small marina. In that marina you'll find sailboats with sailcovers with ARMY written on them. I believe I remember seeing the Navy boats from Annapolis docking there.

AS thye say all Army guys really want to be Navy - that's why ARMY stands for

Ain't
Ready to be a
Marine
Yet

Yeah - my profile picture...

Scotty is much better looking than I am -even without a shave.

Last time I saw credible numbers the Army has more boats (almost all brown water) than the Navy. Now gross tonnage is a different thing....
