Tips on buying from a broker

Just remember the broke gets paid by and works for the seller, not for you.

Have worked with at least 6 to 8 brokers. About half were super helpful and fair to myself and the sellers. The others were borderline unethical. My simple advice would be to have your radar up, dig around and determine the fair price for the boat you are willing to pay independent of the broker and work to that number. It’s your checkbook and it’s fair to expect a high degrees of service while having fun spending your hard earned $. Good luck.

Yeah. lol... the price I arrived at was so low I didn't even bother. I'm gonna' let it "mature" and if it's still there in six months I'll lowball him.

I think this is the strategy. We are currently watching three boats and know if we miss them all there will be another three. Broker not needed with that mindset.

I don't get your approach. If you like the boat and you think you have honestly priced it to the market, then make an offer. It'll cost you nothing and you can see what the seller thinks. If he blows you off, then he still might come back 3 or 4 months from now with an offer.
Or you may find out that your buyers estimate of the market is not realistic.

So, this broker wanted 1000K refundable deposit w/form he was going to e-mail me, that he would then present to owner.
Figuring no way owner would accept less than half what he was asking only a few wks in I was unwilling to jump through those hoops on a vessel that was going to set me back another ~20K less sails to bring up to snuff.
Like I said if ad's still there after the new year, having already seen the boat, I'll float an offer in an e-mail and if broker prepared to take a bath he'll pass it on.
They asking 16.5. Similar in TO going for 5.9 and 9.5.
Guess I'm thinking whatever I could haggle him down to I could find same platform for ~ same price in better shape.

A million dollar deposit is a tad high. I assume you meant $1,000. The broker is not going to take a bath and has no say in the final price. Brokers only get paid if the boat sells.
