Old boat insurance???

Can anyone tell me who will insure a 40 year old sailboat?
I have a Hudson Force 50, and I can’t find anyone who will touch it.
I bought it at n good shape, and will be spending the next year making it breathtaking and beyond. My only fear is fire and sinking. Liability is doable, but almost useless.
The banks and people who sit behind a desk don’t get it!

Re: Old boat insurance???

I'll be watching this one; my wife and I bought a 39 year old boat this spring. It was in very good shape with no deferred maintenance. We got insurance with BoatUS/Geico, but we'll see what happens next year. I knew it was a risk going into next year, but we wanted to sail. Worst case is we go to liability only I suppose. But I'm hoping that we can continue full coverage insurance since it's in good shape and all systems have been upgraded/maintained properly.

I just got insurance for our 41 year old boat through Progressive. Reasonable cost for agreed value insurance.

Actually quite easy if you’re located in a sensible country and not an American. My 41 year old boat is insured with Zurich via an underwriter without trouble.

I'm in the same "boat". I was informed my insurance is being canceled and haven't found an insurer either for boat loss or even liability. My boat is in El Salvador. Does anyone have any insurance leads I can pursue?

My boat's insured with Dolphin Insurance out of British Columbia. I gather the OP is from the USA but you might be able to get coverage. My boat's 48 years old and I pay a pretty small amount annually for liability only. Give em a shout.

Im still covered by Geiko here in the US. Costs have been going up over 10-15% the last few years, year over year, but they havnt cancelled me yet. Just recently renewed, but i have been with them since 2016 so maybe im grandfathered in. My boat is 43 years old.
