Re: Mexico cruising $1k/mo

different places in mexico are different pricing. baja is south california. guaymas and san carlos are opportunistic places for insurance coverage in a cane.. east coast mex is caribbean. southwest coast is beautiful and a riviera of awesomeness..includes barra de navidad, zihuatenejo and alcaputo as well as huatulco.
some call the costa alegra the gold coast. both names are correct, depending on the area in which you are sailing.
rural areas are least pricey, once northern mexico, aka south usa is left behind. even mazatlan has become more expensive now than my previous visit.
as for purchasing of boat parts, manzanillo is still best location for repairs and purchases, once you learn the way to do this.
it is not difficult to make life work happily on 1000 usd monthly. there are many out here doing exactly this. they may or may not post here, but i have met them.
what is saved at anchor is spent on parts when in marina in summers.
storing out of water in mexico in summer is not as inexpensive as it seems, as there is potential for real damages, as seen by odile, newton, jimena, and others passing thru

Wow! Today USD:MXN was 1:19.80 - nearly 20 to 1!
For over a decade Bloomberg has been one of my top three go-to's for financial news and especially currency info. I have comprehension issues here and there. This sentence has me taken aback a lil. Am I reading that Bloomberg (or the markets) believe that the peso has weakened because of Clinton's lead? I will say, if Chump were to get in, I would hope the Peso recovers, at least it may be some kind of apology!

"The peso, among the most-traded currencies in the world and traders’ favorite proxy to hedge against emerging-market risk, has fallen to unprecedented levels as polls show Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton’s lead over Republican Donald Trump is narrowing ahead of the U.S. presidential elections. Guy - so not cool to refer to Zee as Trump! We all know she is strong in her convictions/opinions and doesn't hold back. However, she is a great resource to current and future cruisers of Mexico. Plus, she offers encouragement and a "if I can do it, you can too" attitude to single-handed females of all ages and abilities. So please keep your harsh opinion to yourself.

I think you're reading it wrong. I think it says because Hillary's lead has gotten smaller (her lead has narrowed) IE Trump has gained, then the peso has fallen.

Re: Mexico cruising $1k/mo

ha h aha ha politics be damned . this has been on the rise since 2011.
what mexico did last time there was a 20 to one peso to dollar ratio was kill the peso and start over. we really donot want that.
this is not about political bs in usa--this is about deeper stuff. .

The donut shop down the street has been selling raspberry filled donuts over lemon filled these last few month coinciding with the changes of the Presidential race.

THAT is the real cause--raspberry filling!! as it does not exist in mexico it must be the true reason for the impressive ratio....

Mexican doughnuts are a bait and switch.
They bait the eyes but then the mouth finds out it's bland white bread dough with just enough sugar sprinkles on it to see but not taste....

Re: Mexico cruising $1k/mo

regarding mexican donut bait n switch-----

oh yeah.. fell for it a few times...

there are 2 kinds of decent donuts in two different places. mega--there is a chocolate topped with custard center--yes goood..and a looks like filled sugar covered-- tap off some of the sugar, inside is custard-- these are good. and fresh bread at mega--still warm bolillos--awesome. usually i buy bolillos from local bakers in small towns. cities are different and a bit pricier. until you are in centro or a barrio , where mexican is the style and pricing.
if you like king cakes in nola at mardi gras, they happen in mexico jan 6, twelfth night. between christmas and jan 6, available from small bakeries. yes complete with babies. same flavor. made locally.
