$300/ month annual contract 30' slip in Charleston, SC.

A lot of marinas in this area were "dockominiumed" during the recent real estate boom. Now if you watch Craigslist and the bulletin boards in marinas, you can often find individual slip owners who will rent you a slip month-to-month in a very nice location for a reasonable price.

Amazed at how much the price goes up as you go south and east, though, at least according to the postings above.

Ours will be in the vicinity of $800/mth includes water, cable TV, ensuite facilities, discount at the petrol pump etc. We will be taking a 12 month contract which in turn gives us an extra 2 months free so 14 months for the price of 12.

Ft Myers Beach FL, north of the bridge away from tourist traffic, quick jump to Gulf. About 5 minutes out of the way from my daily work commute.

Behind private home, nice couple, on street parking, spigot available, bring a long hose, 120V 15amp plug which I rarely use, rickety finger pier, no shower/pool/laundry/wifi/lounge/clubhouse, suits me perfect. My 35' barely fits the slip.

$150/mo

Lots of private docks around here, few this convenient, usual rates 250-300/month, marinas about twice that, expect to be raped in the winter.

What does that include?

Is the marina protected from wave action? What about hurricanes?

Very well protected , way up in the bay. Within two Spanish Forts , very busy cruise ship port.

Anacortes, WA (seems very popular with Coloradoans of which we were before we got here). "Gateway to the San Juan Islands" and Puget Sound, BC waters, etc. Or going south to CA/MX.

Anacortes Marina - long term lease only (usually sub-lease to owner of condo slips here). 50' single slip (no boat on either side - makes it less nerve-wracking and easier to tie off in winter). $585/month plus electricity (not marked up). Very secure, clean restrooms, good parking (although tight in the summer on big weekends), well-maintained. Washing machines in office building. They make sure all boats and owners follow the rules. Liveaboards allowed but a significant wait list as they are limited to how many liveaboards can be there. 10% max in WA state (I think). But limits in all marinas. You can stay on your boat temporarily though, especially in the summer. In town and walking distance to all stores, including chandleries. Close to San Juans. Major destination for sailing/cruising - sail and power.

You can find cheaper, and more expensive. Look at the whole package. though. Some marinas are cesspools and/or have limited facilities. And how close they are to everything. Parking, cleanliness, security, long ways to where you want to take your boat. Prices directly related to all of the above.

Slips were dear here until lots of hard storage started being developed. Now as many boats are kept on the hard as in the marinas. Especially used by those who do not use their boats except a few times a year. Easy to get splashed but you pay by the drink and then you have to get an expensive temporary slip or take off. But worth it to many. And, you need to consider the size of the boat (and ALL overhangs) to get the right size slip. My 44 requires a 50' slip and it just barely fits with the dink on davits on the stern and the anchor hanging off the bow. Some slips allow more overhang than others. My marina - none at all (even 1') in the summer when it is busy.

I'm not trying to sell you on Anacortes but making sure you know that your happiness may depend on lots more factors than $xyz/month slip fee.

Here in Adelaide I pay $220/month (about 157 US$) for a 30 ft slip, well built floating fingers. Includes secure parking, electricity, water, showers. Great location.
Access via small private lock using personal remote control for lock operation.

Beautiful Dana Point Harbor, East Basin. $520 for a 30 foot slip. It's wicked expensive.

Pay $145.95 for my 35'-45' slip in the State Marina at Honokohau Harbor here in Kona, HI. Only amenities are water, free gravel parking lot, and a public head that gets vandalized too often. It's the only marina within 40 miles and dirt cheap given the necessity of keeping a boat in a marina here. Anchoring out is limited to 48 hours and State Moorings in Kailua-Kona are untenable in the winter and subject to large swells year around. Only had to wait 5 years for a slip which seriously limits boat ownership.

Spending a good deal of time in the San Diego area and thought about a getting a small daysailer there. Have given up on that idea as slip rents are $15 a foot. Can't see paying $350 a month for a boat I'd only be able to use 3-4 months a year. The way things have gone in SoCal, only the rich and famous can afford to keep a boat because of the slip fees. Evident by the short to non existent waiting list for small slips but long lines for the 35' and up ones.

Horrible to get to the boat - I have to walk about 8 meters across my terrace - long ways - should be closer

I'm at 260 a month. No security, no gates. Marine shop within meters.

Fresh water and power. But no toilet to use after hours. No facilities at all.

AU$500 per month for 42 feet. Full security, plus, for a while, free use of a live-aboard's superb cat to keep the birds off the boat. Sadly moggy recently moved to land based living so the *$($@#(!! birds are back.


I'm in the market for a live aboard moggy. If Zeehag's cat is sick of the weather in Mexico I can offer alternative accommodation. Very sunny deckhouse with 360 degree panoramic views, all the seagulls you can eat.
