How Much Does Your Slip Cost ?

Hi all,

My wife and I are planning on moving aboard for a year or two and we are trying to put together a realistic average monthly budget. I know that prices vary wildly from marina to marina depending on location and amenities, but we plan on moving around quite a bit so just an average will help out alot.

With that said if anyone cares to do so if you could just reply back with your boat length, geographic location, and monthly cost it would be a great help.

In my area slippage can run from $200 a month to thousands per month, 42' on an annual contract. Monthly is often a better deal than nightly, but it depends.

This is at the mouth of the potomac river and chesapeake bay...further north towards Annapolis, you can easily double the above...

In our area, New Smyrna Beach, FL, a 45' liveaboard slip with 220v electric, tv and water will run around $800 on an annual contract.

I think we were $3600 for the year for a 32' in the Vancouver, BC area. Pretty standard in the city seems to be close to $10 a foot a month. Showers, no laundry.

Rates are hugely cheaper when you sign up for a year rather than monthly, or even 6-months.

3300 Euros for 16m berth for six months in the Med' here. Elec is extra and that's with a LARGE discount!

$9/ft non-liveaboard; $12/ft liveaboard here in Jacksonville, FL- but that is slip length, not boat length.

When finding a marina, don't just go with the cheapest- be sure to factor in what is included. There are cheaper marinas near me, but none have locked docks, free laundry, heated pool and hot tub, clean showers, free wireless internet, free cable, and free pump outs like mine. All that starts adding up when you have to pay out of pocket for it. Also, there is a lot to be said for the quality of the docks when you are living aboard. Nobody likes balancing groceries on a dilapidated finger pier.

About $20,000 a year, South Coast of England, for a nominally 54 foot boat (the marina is kind enough to overlook pulpit and davits which make the real LOA over 60').

It's 'spensive, but it includes electricity and it's pretty nice, and best of all it's extremely convenient to reach from London (one hour ten minutes from Heathrow by rental car or an hour ten minutes on the train from Waterloo) and is right in the heartland of British yachting, on the lovely Hamble River. It's expensive but I feel it's really worth it.

Richmond CA, "32" foot boat (says so right there in the name - even though it's 33 LOD and 37 LOA), $315 for a very nice marina includes water, wifi, ice, laundry, pumpouts, and probably some other stuff that I haven't found yet. The trick is not getting shot whilst navigating the 'hood on the drive in.....
