Jabsco Bilge Pump

So my $450 Jabsco (Electric, Manual switch) Bilge pump has died - Its tripping the breaker switch (definitely the Pump as the new one works fine).

It was never used apart from testing every 4-6 weeks and it is not long over a year old and Only has a One year warranty I only put it in, as the previous pump was the original Lagoon one and was starting to rust out.

I have a Seaflo pump in the other bilge which is almost 3 years old and still works as it should - That's the last time I fork out for anything Jabsco.

End of Rant....

Pull the pump apart. There is likely iron dust that is causing a short around the bushings.

Cleaning the inside is very easy. I also agree that $450 sounds like a fancy pump.

Re: Jabsco Bilge Pump

What model bilge pump is it? Lagoons often had two bilge pumps in the well, a slow Gulper type (like Whale - expensive) and a faster vane type (Like Rule - not so expensive). The gulper would not clog nearly as quickly.

Having replaced several Jabsco diaphragm pumps ..yes they can exceed 500 dollars or more depending on model. Even their repair kits can exceed 100 bucks again depending on model

Re: Jabsco Bilge Pump

I rebuilt my Lagoon supplied diaphragm pump. It pumps not only the bilge, but the wet shower. Mine had mechanical issues with sealing and took basically a new plastic frame. Make sure the linkage between motor and diaphragm is not locked up. There is a bearing there.
These should get a filter at the input line too. Gotta keep hair, etc out of the valves.

You're not far off.
Here is one of the current models: https://www.fisheriessupply.com/jabs...-deckwash-pump
I've one of the discontinued models, the 34600 which is much bigger and has 1" ports, the last time I saw them for sale they were well over $700.00

And yes, no matter the model they require a good fine-mesh strainer.
