pirate Preventing Loss of Your Valuables . . . Thieves / Piracy, etc.

Using a medium size Tupperware container in a prominent place on board and marked with your vessels name on it put a couple of defunct watches, cameras, mobile phones, cheap jewellery (buy from a pawn shop) and a wallet with some money and a copied but slightly defaced (where your birth date is shown) drivers licence and old credit cards in it. Maybe add an old passport what ever you can contrive.

Throw in a few receipts so it looks a bit cluttered.

Should you be boarded this is what you handover or what they find rather than your genuine stuff which you stash in a more secure spot.

Far better to lose a $100 of crap that at face value will satisfy a thief than lose the lot in a foreign country.

Hopefully you will never need but if only once it is used then its worth the trouble.. Cheers Frank

Re: Preventing Loss of Your Valuables . . . Thieves / Piracy, etc.

I was worried about not having any kind of "secure" location on our 44 trimaran. Things like passports, ships papers, cash, any vessel documentation, or the like are a total PITA if they disappear in a foreign country. So we decided to build a secure cubby in the foot of the pilot berth and install a fire resistant safe and cover with a plywood panel. Not foolproof, but it would make it a lot harder if they can't find it. Also provides a level of fire protection.
