I retired relatively early. I got bored with fishing everyday and went back to work, or at least I tried to. I found I was "over-qualified" for everything including Mickey D's. So I decided to lie about my past. I got a job at Walmart as a greeter but my constant tardiness got me in trouble from the get-go. Finally, my manager (pink slip in hand) asked what they said to me at my last job when I came in late everyday. I responded: "Are you ready for your coffee, Admiral?"

Jus' sayin'

Hilarious

Re: Piracy :-/

Freekanomics has a good podcast about murder rate vs suicide rate

Bottom line is that there are more suicides than gun murders, but guns are in the news more? Especially lately.

Also more rain drops in a single storm than gun murders, but what do traffic accidents and rain drops have to do with murders?

Re: Piracy :-/

I can see the point in comparing with traffic accidents. There are massive numbers and the threat to public safety is far more likely from other drivers than from guns yet there is no call to halve the speed limit. Therefore why the paranoia about guns?

I've never owned a firearm and probably never will, however;
Piracy shows there is no effective law in some parts of the ocean so the ones with the guns rule. I'd rather have law respecting cruisers out there with guns than pirates with guns.

Re: Piracy :-/

point...

twice as many suicides as murders with guns

murders with guns is all over the media

suicides are not all over the media

when was the last time the gov gave the same media attention to getting suicide hotlines up and running?

extra point...

for the most part suicides aren't a threat to anyone else so what to they have to do the thread?

point is that more people die by plenty of other means, yet all we do is fight over guns being allowed or not....there are bigger problems out there...

you are right, suicides are not part of this thread and do not threaten anyone who is out there...that is why suicides are not out there in the news....

..to many follow what is posted on the news and the news post what they know will stir controversy....so we make a big deal about it...point is that guns are not as much a probem for law abiding citizens as they are made out to be by some people

guns are not the problem, often they are the solution.

if a criminal is the only one with the gun, you are at their mercy.

people who talk of giving the gun toting criminal what they want and hoping they leave make me laugh at the idea...hopefully, the criminal does not want more than the innocent passive person is willing to give.

talk about sirens and lights....rofl

the real questions is:

....should someone be able to defend themself with the same type of defense as the criminal has as an offense????

point is that the problem is a people problem, not a gun problem. thats the bottom line.

what should the cruiser do? he is unarmed...he has no choice but to bow to the person with the nuke or face the consequences that the armed criminal chooses to dish.....he does not have a real chance to defend himself...

dont bring mace or boathooks to a gunfight

Re: Piracy :-/

Get a net.

The no-go zone starts at the rail, not the hatch.

Lights are great if properly placed. Blinding, in fact.

Stay aware...stand watch, get a good dog, set alarms.

An easy SOP that doesn't put you in paranoid-territory, but keeps you out of naive idiot- or even pathetic victim-territory.

Having done that, the crims will likely go and pick on someone easy. Mind you, they might push harder, perhaps they have some other reason to come for you. Deal with it.
