Also uploaded a new version of C2GPXKML that allows you to convert different file formats. It now supports creating KML and GPX files from OpenCPN tracks and adding the log data from the Konni logbook plugin as waypoints. See the attached example.

Just thought I'd try creating the same chart using the method I described earlier where I had "Make land Transparent" and edited the Overlay Before GE Adjustments image by adding some land in the harbor and keeping the GE slider all the way to the right when I press OK.

The first attachment is a screenshot of the edit screen and the second is the resulting chart.

After learning about this program and using it to fix the settings in two computers ... one in Australia and one in Holland ... I thought I would pass it on in case there is some utility here.

I use it all the time when I´m at my desktop allowing me to use a proper keyboard and mouse,plus a large Galaxy S II screen.

The PocketCloud utilities are also great,allowing me to run my laptop via my Galaxy in the cockpit,with the laptop safely below.

I am hoping to get a Galaxy 10.1 Tablet this week so I can use it in the cockpit to run OpenCPN over wi-fi from my Win 7 laptop located safely below in the cabin,using the great facility from PocketCloud.

Attached the display from my Galaxy S II smartphone.

Remote command software has been around for a long time but the twist of TeamViewer is that it can also treat a smartphone as another PC.

Editing a Chart
===========

I was recently asked to help edit a chart that didn't have standard land colors. So I thought it would be good to document...

In the first attachment you can see the original chart displayed on OpenCPN. The land it a non-standard land color so GE2KAP will not recognize it, also its not one solid color.

In the second attachment you can see the same area as shown on Google earth. Note that there is a new harbor in the upper left that is not on the chart. It would be nice to add that to a new chart.

The third attachment show the GE2KAP settings to create the chart. Note I used GIMP 2.6 and also note I have checked the "Overlay After GE Adjustments" so I can edit the image.

After clicking Create Chart GE2KAP overlayed the OpenCPN image on GE and then I adjusted the slider so you can see both the Chart and the GE display, see the fourth attachment. I clicked OK with slider in this position.

Now GE2KAP invoked GIMP so I can edit the image. In the fifth attachment, after changing the mode to RGB, I selected the land area with the Free Select tool and then filled it with a land color (RGB 237,196,109) using the Fill tool and having "Fill whole selection" checked. I included the area with the new harbor. I then select a water color and just filled the water with it (not shown).

After changing the mode back to Indexed 127, I saved the image and pressed Continue on GE2KAP and it produced the resulting new chart that no only displays the land but the new harbor, see the last attachment.

Hope this helps anyone trying to do this.

About the newest version of Google Earth V7:

In the Tools... Options you must uncheck "Use 3D Imagery (disable to use legacy 3D Buildings". Otherwise the charts produced by GE2KAP will have funny check marks all over them.

Also in Google Erath V7, turn off the Tour Guide in the View menu or it will be in the chart produced.

I just uploaded a new version of GE2KAP. There are no code changes just updated the Help for English and French and also the messages for Spanish. Many thanks to the translators: Gilletarom and Alex Oucinde.

GE2KAP V9.6.2

I just uploaded a new version of GE2KAP. It contains a new Turkish translation file thanks to Hasan Cetin.

The only code change is I removed some unnecessary diagnostic messages from the gea2kap_pi.dll plugin. You don't have to update it.

im having truble with this getokap the program is running good the thing is when it starts to convert it still has some ge in the backgroung like ge is leaking through if someone can send me a email address ill send a photo so you can see

I sent a private message with my email address. Please send a screenshot to me and explain what you did. If you are overlaying a BMP send me the BMP and the calibration data ( if you calibrated it with MapCal, send the CHARTCAL.DIR).

GE2KAP.V9.6.3

Why is it that its always the little changes that mess up.

In the previous version I only commented some diagnostics in the ge2kap_dll plugin and recompiled. I tested it on Windows 8 and Win7 64bit. But it turns out it no longer works on 32 bit systems. OpenCPN rejects loading it with an error 127. Not sure why this happening but I have restored the old version of the ge2kap_pi.dll and it works in 32 bit systems and 64 bit.

This is puzzling because it worked two weeks ago. I am going to start taking off some of the Windows Updates to see if I can figure the cause.

Anyway sorry for all the updates... the new version has been uploaded to: www.gdayii.ca Downloads ...GE2KAP.zip
