Regardless, if someone's anchor does everything they ask of it, how can another anchor be "better"?

I haven't had a need for one of those for a VERY long time, but I will freely admit that I'd buy the more expensive one, that's not something that I'd want to cheap out on

At least that you would admit to on a public forum.

My point is, it was the same condom, he just doubled the price. People thought it must be better at 50 cents so they bought them.

Well, naturally, I have to spend more on condoms because larger condoms cost more.

Re: Vulcan Anchors by Canada Metal Products

Anyone know what the last page of the reprint really means? It was done as marketing to make the Ronca be the best anchor there is of course, but this line:

"Results of aluminium anchors have been adjusted to allow comparison to steel anchors"

Really confuses me. It tells me that they really messed with the data so they would be the best!

Well, I guess size would always matter on an Anchor thread

I'm going out on a limb here, but bet they are saying you can't compare aluminum anchors to steel ones based on weight, surface area of an aluminum one would be significantly greater

Did you know that each condom has a unique serial number?

But what is one to do? If you are limited In your cruising range to the Chessie or like or like conditions then there is one best solution.

If you spend the majority of your time on rocky shores, or about coral reefs the answer may be different for each situation.

If you're travel between all the above, then what? Have a multitude of anchors?

My answer has been to go BIG! And pray the windlass holds up!

No doubt the Danforth type anchors are an excellent choice in Chessie mud, which is all most folks will ever know. I carry one on each boat, just not as the primary.
Hpeer - "Go BIG" is a common strategy among many cruising sailors, while others believe that having an arsenal of anchors in order to have the "right tool for the job" is the best strategy.

There are certainly bottoms where a twin-fluke Danforth-type anchor is going to be challenged: Grass, weeds, and rocks immediately come to mind.

Aikiguy & a64pilot, that chart took some real creativity.

First, they said that the 21 lb Fortress FX-37 was similar in size to a 50 lb steel Danforth-type anchor, which is totally false, it is close in size to the 35 lb HT model. The rest of the calculations for the chart are a bit of a mystery.

What do anchors and condoms have in common?

Size matters.
