Re: Spooky? Electronic Anchor Watch Confusion

The technical explantions seem to bloom far beyond the interests of the cruiser that is awakened by his anchor alarm in the dark and has an immediate interest in his position. After I start my engine in order to deal with the worse case scenario I might decide to reboot my GPS to get a fresh position and preparing to motor into any increased wind or current that might be moving me from my original position. I am not taking this time to speculate the possible electronics and physics theories that could have a responsibility for a false reading.

Thanks for all your responses!
I am astonished, that a GPS error can look that realistic.
Just to complete the picture: We are using the GPS signal from the internal GPS of the Watchmate and the HDOP is better than 1.

"I am astonished, that a GPS error can look that realistic." Yes, it's one of the reasons to take bearings on shore objects that you will be able to find by spotlight at night when the drag alarm wakes you. A quick check will confirm or not whether you have actually dragged. Just hope the adrenalin rush gets over quickly. ;-)

Honestly, I think electronics displays tend to make us believe they are fact when sometimes they are not. I tend to trust my radar, but not my GRIB files for weather and I feel better with external confirmation, like bearings, radar, weather observations.
