Simpson Lawrence Hyspeed windlass grease question

The metal plate on my S-L manual windlass says "Fill with oil grade SAE 140 or nearest"

I have not been able to find this single weight oil, although I have found SAE 85W-140 multi-weight.

Interestingly, the manual I downloaded from SLSpares says use SAE EP80. (No mention of SAE 140)

What do you use/recommend for your S-L windlass?
Thanks,
Jim

Truck stops offen have oil's in single weights. Most offten, these oils are for older transmissions in trucks (think real shifting trannys) and in automotive real ends.Might work for ya

You should be able to use the multi weight without problem. As Bobconnie pointed out it is used in a lot of trans and rear ends. If your are sailing in the colder climes it would be ideal. If you really want SAE 140 your car parts store can order it for you.
