Number of Anchors
I have a bruce and a plow but the Admiral keeps wanting a third anchor. How many anchors do you carry and what type? I am worried about storage.

Fortress anchors or a bit less expensive Guardian are easy to store, fold flat or dissasemble to roll up in a bag. Reported to have good holding in most conditions.

I carry two on my B393. My primary anchor is a 45# Manson Supreme and the secondary is a 44# Claw. For my type of cruising (Bahamas, US East coast) that's plenty. I have yet to anchor with both of them. Two's plenty in most cases.

Three
I carry three anchors. A 33lb Rocna, a 22 lb Delta, and a 16 lb Fortress.
The Rocna is on the bow attached to 150' 5/16 HT chain. That is really the only anchor I use. The Delta is stored in the lazerette in case I loose the Rocna. The Fortress is mounted on the sternrail in case of emergency deployment.

On the current boat I carry 4 (Ray, Rocna, fortress, danforth) and really only use the Ray and danforth. I have only once put out all four in hurricae Lenny. On the previous boat we carried 3 (bruce, cqr, danforth) and really only used the bruce and danforth.

Small, medium & Large which stays on the bow-roller. The small one I keep in a bucket for an emergancy throw-out or lunch anchor (aways monitored). A Claw, Delta and another small Claw. Plus I'm making up a baby Delta 10#, which you can't find/buy.

We have three...#45 CQR with 150 feet of 3/8 chain, a 45 pound Danforth, and a #10 pound fortress, along with three rodes. Really only use the CQR, unless we were faced with a big blow. Then we would chain the fortress to the plow, set to windward, and set the Danforth in the anticipated new wind direction.

Currently carry three.
#1 - 45 lb Rocna
#2 - 35 lb CQR
#3 - 35 lb Danforth
For serious cruising and frequent anchoring I think this is the min. For casual cruising, calm weather I could live with 2.

three
Primary: 25 Kilo Rocna
Stern: Guardian G-37
Storm: Guardian G-55
the plan for storm conditions is to use the G-55 in tandem with the Rocna.

CQR on the bow
Fortress on the bow
Bruce down below (I haven't decided which I like better on the bow)
4 if you count the dinghy anchor.

We carry 4 with us. Manson Supreme and Danforth HT ready to launch, Delta and Bruce ready to attach rodes, usually one at the ready when double anchored. Used 3 at once this Summer, and was glad to have the 4th. Anchored bow & stern at Santa Cruz Island CA, boat dragged down on me and I used the Delta as a kedge when they dragged my other anchors (and boat) to the rocks, kept the Bruce at the ready later just in case. Never did get the Danforth back but still had a spare anchor for emergencies. Their insurance company paid for a new Danforth and rode, but not instantly.

Our working anchor is a 44lb. Delta. We also carry a similar size Danforth in the anchor locker, and a seriously large Fortress disassembled in the bilge.

Depends on type of sailing. We carried 3 plus a small kedge aroud the world: Bruce (main) CQR (deep in a locker - useless) Danforth (second). All 10-12 kg (22-25) (boat 3000 kg (6600)).
Bruce was the best but today would upgrade to Spade, Manson or Rocna 15Kg (33) and downgrade from 10 (3/8) mm chain to (5/16) 8 mm (to get a longer chain at the same weight).
